I had the privilege of hanging out with a friend today that has four (yes that's right.. 4) original Lamborghini's. He's currently restoring a 86 Countach but he also has a Diablo, a Murcie coupe and his daily driver is a Gallardo. I try not to bother him that often since he's a busy guy and he lives about two hours away. While I there today, I took some pictures of the Murci factory decals (color, size and locations) and studied a couple areas on the car. After leaving his place, my buddy Jeff pointed out the square covers on the front fender jambs that are located under the door hinges. I've noticed them before but never really understood why they where there. Jeff pointed out that with that panel removed, you are able to loosely attach the hinge to the door, shut the door completely, adjust the gaps and with the front tire removed, access the hinge bolts through these holes and tighten everything down.
I'll admit that I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't figure this out on my own but I'm guessing that there might be others out there that could benefit from this information and consider adding these functional panels. ::thumbup

I have noticed those panels before too but it never dawned on me what they are for either. Thanks Chris! This will be very helpful. :)

Alright I confess , to just buying a pair of these ... ;

I looked on the diagrams at eurospares but couldn't find these. Do you have part numbers?
-
Part number is ...410837267
Prepare to be disappointed in that the eurospares price is wrong - shame.

That's per side or $321.21 a pair. ::toothy
Might be a part worth trying to make. I would start with a block of hardwood that is cut slightly smaller than the opening (start with a cardboard template and transfer it). Cut out a piece of aluminum or thin gauge sheet metal so it overlaps the block by about 1/8" on three sides and 3/4" on the forth side. Drill two holes through the metal and use a couple of wood screws to hold the metal to the wood. Gently tap the edges of the metal so it forms around the edges of the wood and creates a vertical lip on the three shorter sides and create a step flange on the forth lip. Pull everything apart, weld the holes shut and either tack weld a bolt onto the back of the plate for the washer and nut. A thin coat of bondo, primer and paint and you are done. :)

OK, I have some things to consider on this one. Maybe someone else will get around to making these before I do. LamboJayso? :)

You can make these pretty easy fellas. ::thumbup

Is that an OEM part or did you make those Alan?

Just a reminder to all that you should rough fit your door (as accurately as possible) with the bolts in the center of the slot on the hinge. (All 8 bolts centered in their respective slots) Then after you have welded your forward hinge support, you can do the minor adjustments through the access hole. Maybe JDinner can input some advice here on this but my thinking is to fit the door skin to the rear quarter as far as the flush fitment goes and then go to the front fitment to the front fender.

That's a great point Jim and the difference for us is that we need to figure out the location of the hinge supports and everything else unlike the factory that has everything already engineered, set and figured out.

Plate dimensions , as requested ( in US ) & model file attached. :)

Thanks String!
Looks like a part that is begging to be CNC'd from carbon fiber plate. ::toothy

Any interest in these if a pair in carbon fiber can be bought for around $160 a pair shipped in the USA? I wouldn't be making them but I know of a coupe guys on here that have the skills and access to the tools to make them. ::headbang

How thick are these plates, lip and all? It looks like 5mm material might be more appropriate for the main pieces and 3mm for the tab. Then just not worry about making that lip that runs all the way around. They look like they may be a little difficult to machine without the material fraying. What if they were lasered out and somehow bonded together? Just a thought!

I made it by hand with a guess for dimensions until String could share them. Came would pretty close to! Thanks for sharing the blue print String.
