Title: Porsche 914 Trans and SBCv8 in a Fiero based Diablo Build Dairy
Post by: CCIE on May 07, 2014, 09:03:32 PM
Hello All,

I am getting a TPI v8 dropped in my Fiero based Diablo Roadster, also going from a Auto Fiero Transmission to a 5 speed Munci Trans (Couldn't find a getrag) I also have a Porsche 914 Transmission sitting around and was thinking "WHY NOT"
Who has a decent build dairy with a v8 and 914 Transmission setup that can assist me. Any information, pictures, instructions, feedback that I can pass to my mechanic is greatly appreciated and I will gladly assist in return...

Thanks Much

Hey Yusha,  J here!  I actually have a sbc TPI in my IFG Diablo with the Porsche 914 transmission in it.  I didn't do the work it was IFG that built the car but you can look at it or I can send u pics.  It looks like a fairly easy set up once you get the adapter plate got the trans made.  Will talk tomorrow about it.  Ttyl.

I agree with Adrian, the 914 isn't a very strong transmission.  There are much better options if you are building a car.  The Porsche guys who are running 914s are paying more for them these days as they are getting scarcer so it might be better to sell that one and get something better.  The 6-speed Cayman is much better.

Is 914 better then the Fiero 5 speed Munci Transmission?

If by "better" you mean stronger, no.
