Title: Group buy on G28 Door Glass
Post by: usmc_butler on August 29, 2012, 06:59:56 AM
I've taked to Murci-me and he has recently changed his door glass design to better fit his G28 build. I asked him what he would sell set for and and depending on how many we can order between $450 and $250. If we can get at least 4 pairs bought we can get them for $305 a pair plus shipping to you. I have myself and one other person interested in doing this. Leave a message on this thread if you would like to be included on this group buy. If we don't get enough interest I might purchase 2 just to get a better rate and sell the other set...

Put me down for a roadster set if anyone ever gets around to doing them.  I have Marks plastic ones now.  They are nice, but they're not glass.

I recently re-did both my doors and came up with a whole new pattern for the glass. The new glass fits better to the shape of the opening, and goes a little further down (when lowered) into the door because of the new curvature.
Autotemp charges me $80 per piece of glass ($160/pair) to make them. They charge $400 shipping and crating whether its for 1 piece or 20 pairs. I divide that shipping cost over the amount of pairs ordered. If somebody orders 1 pair, it would cost $160 for the glass plus $400 for shipping for a total of $560. If I order 10 pairs, it would cost 1600 for the glass, plus $400 for crating and shipping, for a total of $2000. Divide that cost among the 10 pairs and each pair would cost $200. Shipping from here to anywhere in the continental U.S. is $46, bringing the total to $246/pair (to your door).
I dont make any money or mark up the glass even 1 cent. I make the crates to ship them at work so that doesn't cost me anything, and I dont charge for that either. The order process takes 4-6 weeks to the glass to arrive here, and for me to ship to you usually takes 4 days.

I got the old design. How much further does the glass go down now? Was the old design binding because of the curvature?

Sorry, guys busy at work lately... Well I see Mike got one here and updated us on pricing "Thank You". Next LamboJayso is going a different direction on a build so he will not be ordering. So Ive decided to keep this thread going for 2 or 3 weeks and try to get more people to purchase.

Tallon, I have no idea why other members haven't been here yet. I really don't want to post this anywhere else then it make it harder to keep up with. So I'll try to PM some people on the other site to gather more interest.

Here is a updated break down:

1. usmc_butler
2. Cementhead

Potential buyers for $250:
1. Tallon
2. Non Member (email)

So, If I win the million dollar lottery  ::help I'll buy everyone door glass ::beers

Its based on a Murcie so I would hope so. How big is the window opening on your car? I will measure mine today just to double check.

a g28 is not the same as oem murcie, just looks like one by eye
curvature could be different as well not sure

Thanks Tallon. I guess I should watch my wording as my kit is anything but OEM based. Closest relative would most likely be a g28 but not for sure. I have the kit that CKI is using the pics for their Reventon roadster. AKA- Rav2

Depending upon the price and how they fit a G28 roadster, I could be in for a set if they fit correctly.  I'm still going with bolt on plastic side windows but I'd buy a set in glass in case I ever wanted to convert to glass roll up windows later on.
