Title: Finally, a 180* exhaust for a V6 - 3400 - 3800??
Post by: No Bull on December 12, 2012, 06:43:42 AM
Sounds really good and could even be made better with a Borla muffler to help resonate it out a little more.  I would make mine a little louder to let everyone know that I'm around (::police Honest officier... I consider this a safety feature!)  ;D

This exhaust was built for a 3400 but I'd order one if built for a 3800 (can't be that different).

Chris,  GTRs don't have mufflers.  It's a SAFETY thing for sure.  Protect the kids etc.  GO GREEN.  SPCA approved.

I was trying to get more info from a couple other forums on the firing order of the 3800 vs. the 60* engines as I posted the thread there as well.  I got a lot of people complaining about yet another 180* header thread but only one guy offered up what I think may be useful info.

He said the firing order of the 3800 is 1-6-5-4-3-2 which essentially is the same as 6-5-4-3-2-1 or reverse order of the 60*.  This tells me that this should allow for the same pairing of the primaries as the 60* setup in that thread?

Anyone have any ideas or contradictions to this thought?  If not, I am thinking I will build a set of these headers for my 3800 S/C going into my 308 replica to get a different sound from it.  Maybe I can get better info from you guys than I have had from the other forums I have asked on.  Maybe time to go to 3800 pro forum and ask about this there as well.....

We will have to wait and see how successful I am.....

Thanks
Don

I have heard both engines in person with the 180* exhaust, and they sound identical except for the sound of the SC on the 3800.
It seems to me the money to do this exhaust could be better spent elsewhere on the build though. Yes, there is a difference in sound with the 180*, but it is still nowhere near the sound of an actual V-12, and basically sounds like a V6 with tuned exhaust.
The sound a V-12 makes is derived from the stroke of the engine, no header or putting an OEM Lambo exhaust on will make any difference in the sound.
I have heard a 60* V6 with all stainless steel exhaust, and that sounded even better than the 180* set-up.
Also, keep in mind that Lambo engines are from Italy, and the 3800 is from America. I think the first difference between the two is the accent of the mice inside them.

OK, enough of the 180º headers on a 3.8L SC.  You want the 6.0L Lambo sound, do you?  Follow my math for a sec.  Lambo running @ 7,000 rpm (sweet sound) =3,500 EPM (exhaust pulses per minute) @ cylinder.  So 12 cyl would provide 42,000 EPM @ 7,000 rpm.
Now, here comes the sweeter part: TWO 3.8L SCs meshed together @ 60º flywheel offset will give you 42,000 EPM the same as the Lambo V-12 engine.   ONLY the twin 3.8Ls = 7.2L which will sound even more aggressive that a gorrilla with his tail in a meat slicer.  Anyway you slice it, same sound. ::headbang ::headbang ::headbang ::LAMBO

I'm gonna take a shot at meshing three 4 cylinder engines together then!
