Is that a partial 12 cyl I see in the back of that?

All right, Adrian.  Bring it to Carlisle in any condition.  People just want to see and ask questions.  However, I think that it would be best if you just scrap that chassis and start over.  You have over detailed your build and I would just drool over it all day.   ::headbang ::thumbup ::thumbup  Jim

Yeah, that is my mock-up block in there.  I am planning to eventually twin turbo it

Adrian;

Sorry for not being sure as I am sure you have mentioned it elsewhere but is the transaxle an 012 6 speed?  I see A4 6 speed on the side of one of your pics and wanted to confirm.  I am still looking for a transaxle for my Countach build I can count on.  016 transaxles are hard to find up here in Canada.

Thanks
Don

Two questions, Adrian.  Where are your door hinge supports?  and what is the ground clearance under your butt?  Better build a skid plate and slide it in your pants ;-) ::headbang ::headbang ::headbang

Nice, just nice.  Jim
Title: Re: AB 6.0 update
Post by: AdrianBurton on January 22, 2013, 05:26:47 AM
The hinge supports have not been added in these pics
Ground clearance is yet to be defined since I changed the roll cage and seats, but currently it is about 3.5"-4"

Depending on hp you should look for an Audi 01E. That is the highest rated 2wd Audi box and handles 450 BHP and similar torque.

01X is your second best option and should be good for 300+ BHP. I actually learned alot at the www.gt40s.com (http://www.gt40s.com) forum. There are some genuine gearbox experts over there.

Regards
Jackal

P.S. I was told to stay way clear of 012 boxes. I bought my 01E from England on Ebay. It was from Prestige motors. They break all the big Audis. S8's, A8, S8 etc. etc. You will come right there.

Oh yeah, I am on that forum also  very knowledgeable bunch. The interesting thing about the 01X is that no one has data to support that claim of only surviving 300hp.  My box has the ratios that I was looking for and I am not planning to "RACE" mine though spirited driving is in it's future.

Besides the 01E is becoming harder to find

Adrian,
I have two cars with the 01X. They have only test miles on them, and those are not hard miles, but I am confident with them. They are both behind 450HP aluminum small blocks. Before making the selection, I considered the way that rating is arrived at. It factors three things: friction coefficient (stickiness of the tire), contact patch (square inches of tire footprint), and downforce (weight on the tire). In other words you could probably run a thousand horsepower through that transaxle to a bicycle tire with no weight on it, but you may only be able to run one hundred through it if it is connected to a pair of huge and sticky top fuel drag slicks with a wing over them generating thousands of pounds of downforce. Looking at realistic numbers for the factors involved with these cars, I cannot see why they would not handle that horsepower.

Adrian, What kind of chassis is that? did you build it from plans? I like the heim joints for suspension mounts because you eliminate the need for all the bushings and machining the little cam holes and other pieces you need for the NEARC chassis. Also I really like the rear uprights. I dont care about the road noise I want to do a spirit of america style race car. Any info on this would be great. Nice job BTW its looking really good.

Thanks,  everything about my build is custom, including the uprights.  When I started I had visions of racing it, but the $$$ dried up, sooooo now it will only be a "hot street car".  I did have cliff rework the front clip for me, it saved me a TON of work.

I agree with you on the rod ends, I can change them if the ride is unbearable, but the intent for this car was 1.2g's setady in the corners, 2+ stopping

I wish there was some pretty stuff to show, but I have been working on the wiring when I get time, what has been killing me is waiting for parts.  I had to wait almost 2 months for the console switches to come in.  I am hoping to put power to it this weekend though

Remember this little bit of advice in planning for future needs or repairs - Wiring can and should be pretty stuff too!

Agreed, I do it for a living and it PAINS ME to see a harness with a MILLION splices, and a mix of random connectors.  When I get home today I will take a pic of my front trunk harness to show what I am working on

Comin' along AD.  Your pics show the integrity that goes into a quality build.  Going the extra mile on a part that probably no one will probably see when you are all done...BUT.....you will know that it was done right.  Thumbs up.

But you have got to go all in, especially when it is what you do for a living, and with wiring it just takes one out of place to cause you some serious grief AKA.... FIRE

I hear you Adrian;

I am rewiring a bunch of switches in my 308 build to the centre console right now and finding all kinds of interesting wiring jobs under the wiring tape on my mid 80's Fiero.....  Surprised it wasn't burned down already on some of the wiring hacks I have found.

Worth it to take the time to make it all right and clean.  Also documented on a frame drawing so you know where everything is and what colour when all done.

Keep up the great work
Don

Nice work, Adrian.  Looks like one of the two outlets is a fuel pickup? and the other will be your fuel return?  You have many hours in your tank.  Yours looks bulletproof.  ::thumbup  I incorporated a skid plate around my aluminum tank to protect it from engine heat and stones.  I think that my vent will be a hose with a cintered brass breather on the end.  You're doing well.
Title: Re: AB 6.0 update
Post by: AdrianBurton on January 11, 2016, 01:06:34 PM
Thanks, I'd have to guess around 8 or 10 hrs into it, definitly didnt plan for it but....

That plate allows for dual -10an feeds, I ll probably just use the one that is capped off as the return.  I am planning to add panels around mine also and a skid plate also.  my vent has a shutoff valve, and the filler has a flapper to cut fuel in the event of rollover

Adrian nice job, its hard to see in the pics are you going with the original bmw 3 into two configuration or something else, i'm glad you posted your pics I don't have my bmw v12 installed yet , I still have the lexus sitting in the hole, from your pics it looks very close to the upper chassis rails, I take it you will have to remove the headers in future to get the engine out, not that you should ever have to remove a bmw v12 they last forever. Are your headers going to be tuned length, or did you come up with a length just to make it all fit the space, the collectors look nice did you make them, keep up the good work.

Lambo,

They are 3X4 like OE in addition to being tuned and stepped,  I will have to remove the exhaust either way because of the way that I chose to route them

I can tell you this... THEY TAKE FOREVER!!!!!
I have about 25 hrs in just 1 side to this point... Im expecting around 8 more to finish the drivers side.  I was hoping to finish the welding in the rear so that I can paint it before Carlisle but it isnt looking to good for that

Oh well, it is coming either way

Thanks Yusha, I was there last month, I left you a mssg, but I was running 100mph

I am going to do something a bit different with my tail pipes that you'd normally see, I have a couple more things to buy and I will be finished with the exhaust, and it can be shipped of for coating

QUESTION:

Does anyone have a Jota Engine cover?
How about a good OE copy of the doors?

I have some but they arent the best and will need a TON of work, so I am looking to buy my time back

Don't know how much you want to pay for doors, but there are a pair of carbon ones on eBay?

AB: I know that you have already spent weeks on your custom headers but how easy is it going to be to remove them should you need any (hopefully not) repair work on your engine?  I found this pic of a set of headers.  Basic yes, loss of hp due to design probable, easy to remove, yes.  http://www.v12diablo.co.uk/engine5.htm (http://www.v12diablo.co.uk/engine5.htm)

However, IT IS YOUR REPLICA!!  You the man.  Just build it.

Title: Re: AB 6.0 update
Post by: AdrianBurton on September 04, 2019, 11:04:42 AM
Thanks, this is the second go at the headers.  I like how these are coming out, because I can remove them before taking out the engine.  The mufflers are being re-built, they have to be pretty short to work/ fit, but this setup will also allow me to turbo IF I don't think I have enough power

Hey Adrian, Looking good bro!! Just a concern question, On those chassis shock mounts, What do you think about welding in some thick quarter moon gussets on each side of the mounts?(starting right behind the nut and bolt). I see the bottom support and that's cool too!

I'm sure by doing that, it would add that forward/backward stress support as well...Just a thought.
Title: Re: AB 6.0 update
Post by: AdrianBurton on September 08, 2019, 10:36:49 PM
Sam, thanks.  It is triangulated, you can barely make them out in the pic, but there is a brace that runs underneath back to the chassis
Title: Re: AB 6.0 update
Post by: lambo_sam on September 09, 2019, 12:33:55 PM
Yes I see the support you have underneath, but I was refering to the support on either side of the shock post.
Title: Re: AB 6.0 update
Post by: AdrianBurton on September 09, 2019, 02:15:47 PM
the load path isn't in fore or aft direction, so there isn't a need to add the additional bracing
