Title: audi a8
Post by: Tallon on May 02, 2012, 09:20:08 AM
I wonder if anyone is near this place, I want to bid on one of these cars but the only one I can actually go see is not one that I can bid on because it is titles as "FL  CERTIFICATE OF DESTRUCTION."

This one's in greer SC, it's one that doesn't say whether it runs or not just says vandalism but I can't tell where at.

I am new to this stuff.

Do you have a license to buy at Copart?  My friend has a Mexican License and I believe he can bid on CERTIFICATE OF DESTRUCTION Titles.  If you want I can check with him, just send me the Lot number and I will let you know.
Is this A8 going to be for your LP640 project?

I think I found it, is this it: http://www.copart.com/c2/onSaleResults.html?_eventId=getLot&execution=e1s2&lotId=13194262&returnPage=SEARCH_RESULTS (http://www.copart.com/c2/onSaleResults.html?_eventId=getLot&execution=e1s2&lotId=13194262&returnPage=SEARCH_RESULTS)

Looks really clean and well maintained for a car with that many miles.  I wonder why they gave it a destruction title.

Yea that's the one, it took me awhile to realize why I couldn't buy it since I've never done this before. It's only 2.5 hrs from me too! Figures.

I don't have any license but I'm paying their broker to use theirs only they don't support buying 'COD' vehicles.

Yes I plan to use it in my project so the title doesn't matter to me.

Bad news, our license doesn't allow us to bid on "COD" cars either.  If you need help with other cars let me know.

Alright thanks
I wonder what kind of license is needed

Funny, it's going to cost me $250 to use this dealer I'm using and they can't get this car for me...
any other car on there I can get but I don't know if I trust the other ones since I can't just go look at them. They're not verified as drivable.

That is a lot of money for something that you cant see. If you have a salvage around you make friends with them and tell them what you are looking for. I have a good friend that owns a local salvage and he will pretty much get me what I want as long as I have the funds.

Can you use that transaxle in your build? How hard is it to get that motor running out of the car. That would be a great way to go if it can be done. You wouldn't need any adapter plates for your transaxle. Really good idea!

Can any Audi gearbox be used that isn't awd. It seems impossible to find an 01e.

No, can't use the trans but just buy a fwd trans $300+, john watson says most audi's will bolt right up with out an adapter. Everything else in the car can be used in the build and sell the trans and what isn't used. But that's who talked me into this I think it's a good idea.

There are plenty of Audi 2 wheel drive gearbox's that will work, 4 speed, 5speed and 6 speed. Prices from $300.00 on up. Ebay is a great resource.

Could the engine from this one work?  They are more readily available

http://www.copart.com/c2/onSaleResults.html?_eventId=getLot&execution=e11s4&lotId=16484432&returnPage=SEARCH_RESULTS (http://www.copart.com/c2/onSaleResults.html?_eventId=getLot&execution=e11s4&lotId=16484432&returnPage=SEARCH_RESULTS)

How about this Turbo model?

I won a bid today on a 1996 BMW 750 for $1,200.00 with a clean title and no damage.  Bad thing it was on a minimum bid so I don't know yet if they are going to give it to me, we'll see.

Let me know if those A6 Audi's will work, I also need to get my donor soon!

John said that would work, I asked about both of those.

Anyone know what these engines sound like? This is important for my build. I couldn't find any older cars on youtube, just the new v12's.

Found this for the turbo:
New Audi A6 2.7 Twin Turbo Magnaflow Exhaust (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CptzQUd2jjk#)

Audi A6 2.7T Straight Pipes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-xeG6lykko#ws)

There's different 2.7L turbos? How can you tell the difference? Like if it's 2000-2001 it can be either or?

2000-2005 - 184 kW (250 PS; 247 bhp)
1999-2001 - 169 kW (230 PS; 227 bhp)

I saw that also, but I don't know how to tell the differences between the two.  If you wanted the one with the higher horsepower it would be safer to go with a 2002 and newer model.  Maybe you can call the dealer and give them the VIN, they should be able to tell you the engine it has.  I'll do a bit more research to see if I can find out for you.

Now if we could get our hands on one of these engines we would kill, they are available on the 2003 and newer A6's I believe:
4.2TT 40v 4,172 cc (254.6 cu in) V8 2xDOHC 339 kW (461 PS; 455 bhp) @ 2,800 550 N·m (406 ft·lbf) @ 2,000 4.5 sec 168 mph (unlimited) 2003–2004

Probably a variation in the vin tag should call out the engine difference. Some GM trucks like mine have the same engines but one is high output which is designated by a D instead of E for normal output.
