 Say we use a fiero key, The way I am going to do it is create a Two piece mold, after the mold is done take the fiero key and place it in between the mold with only the metal male part sticking out and mold it like that. It might take a few tries to get it right, but I think it will work. ::rocker

Hmmm...I'm kind of interested but I don't know how I'd get my key into that piece without forming it around the metal myself. Do you have an idea how this would work?

Are you talking about molding the part that holds the actual key? Is that different for ignition and air bag?

I have an OEM air bag key and ignition key, I will be making some molds if anyone is interested, I'm thinking $35.00 shipped.

You can swap to a cavalier column, the key cylinder idea won't work.  Here is a pic of the fiero column with the ears removed.  The column cover was made to fit the fiero cylinder location.

Yes, the ears are in the way, I didn't know you could take them off. I really like jdinner's idea about replacing the steering column with a cavalier's. I wonder can you just use a ignition lock cylinder from a cavalier and thus get to use a new key or do you have to replace the whole column? I molded mine with silicon molding. What polymer did you use?

I know a guy that owns a real 6.0 and he let me borrow the air bag key to mould it. I used Por-a-Mold (synair) to make a mould of the key head. I used a Cavalier steering column so I also used the two sided Cavalier key.
I had a key cutter make several keys and then ground down the head to fit into the mould.
I used an alligator clip on a frame to support the key in the mould while the polymer cured.
Then I poured Por-a-Kast into the mould with the key supported in it. It turned out awesome.

If it's a fiero column you have to remove that plastic ring/ears that you would grip as you turn the key

Well I got a Lambo key and molded it and attached the end part to my Fiero key and guess what? It doesn't fit in the slot any more. The rubber end is too wide to accept the key any more. Back to the drawing board.

Yes, gm column.  Buy the key And make a mold of the end piece.  Fit new piece to your key
