pictured from underside, once door is aligned, hinge stays on door permanently and removed from frame, hinge is drilled through and 2 dowels allow it t be fitted again in position once door is painted

I made it by hand with a guess for dimensions until String could share them. Came would pretty close to! Thanks for sharing the blue print String.

How thick are these plates, lip and all? It looks like 5mm material might be more appropriate for the main pieces and 3mm for the tab.  Then just not worry about making that lip that runs all the way around. They look like they may be a little difficult to machine without the material fraying. What if they were lasered out and somehow bonded together? Just a thought!

Any interest in these if a pair in carbon fiber can be bought for around $160 a pair shipped in the USA?  I wouldn't be making them but I know of a coupe guys on here that have the skills and access to the tools to make them.  ::headbang

That's a great point Jim and the difference for us is that we need to figure out the location of the hinge supports and everything else unlike the factory that has everything already engineered, set and figured out.

Just a reminder to all that you should rough fit your door (as accurately as possible) with the bolts in the center of the slot on the hinge.  (All 8 bolts centered in their respective slots) Then after you have welded your forward hinge support, you can do the minor adjustments through the access hole.  Maybe JDinner can input some advice here on this but my thinking is to fit the door skin to the rear quarter as far as the flush fitment goes and then go to the front fitment to the front fender.

Might be a part worth trying to make.  I would start with a block of hardwood that is cut slightly smaller than the opening (start with a  cardboard template and transfer it).  Cut out a  piece of aluminum or thin gauge sheet metal so it overlaps the block by about 1/8" on three sides and 3/4" on the forth side.  Drill two holes through the metal and use a couple of wood screws to hold the metal to the wood.  Gently tap the edges of the metal so it forms around the edges of the wood and creates a vertical lip on the three shorter sides and create a step flange on the forth lip.  Pull everything apart, weld the holes shut and either tack weld a bolt onto the back of the plate for the washer and nut.  A thin coat of bondo, primer and paint and you are done.  :)
