Juice . I don't know a damm thing about testing metals. Lol. I would jump on it to see if it breaks or not. Lol if it doesn't then it's good. Lol.
But as digibeam said if u just want someone for entertainment value then I wouldn't mind. =)

Here is a portable Rockwell tester. It just puts a small indentation in the steel and measures the pressure with a gauge. You can also do a Brinell test which is basically the same thing.

as long as who ever is doing the test has a unit for measuring tube steel as well as any plate areas,  plus new unused specimen blanks at what ever hardness you believe the frame should be.
they are simple looking devices, but very accurate.
i guess the easiest validation would be test several areas on the end that has not been exposed to the fire, then test several areas that have been in the fire.
theoretically if unaffected, they should reflect close to the same based on proximity to welds etc.
still, at the end of the day, visual judgement may tell you what you need to know before any test happens.

um,  i am not close,  but i am just curious, is the partner request just for the entertainment value of having the test done and needing the company to chat with?  cause generally, its about as exciting as watching paint dry...
other than that, if i wasnt up in the great white north, for sure i would be more than happy to partake in that... :)

it is a test to show the hardness of the metal beacuse this chassis has had an engine fire. do you think you would be able to tell if the metal has been softened?

Hi guys,

Anyone in the La area willing to come with me to do a Rockwell test on a OEM chassis? I can pay a bit for your time. Thanks!
