I had the bottom hole of the nut chamfered to help guide the nut into the thread. This is also the purpose of the piece of tube incorporated in the mount. Right now everything is just tacked. It will all get welded out and tied into the bottom and sides of the frame rail.  Just wanted to detail how I am doing this for anyone else wanting to use an MR2 as donor. It was hard to find the info on how to do the rear stretch on the MR2 so I am trying to reverse engineer what they did from reading build threads and looking at pictures on extreme ownersclub.com.  One thing I can say to anyone thinking about going this route, it is probably easier the leave the factory shock towers and build new ones off of them. It was much more complicated to do it the way I did.

You can only use the rear cross member bolts for this arrangement. The front bolts are too long

Here are some shots of how I went about mounting the crossmember in its new location.
I took a lot of digging to find out how extreme accomplished this. However I was disappointed to see they just welded nuts inside the frame rail. I wanted to make it more structural. So I kind of copied what toyota did. I had weld nuts machined with weld gaps. Then bought new mounting bolts from toyota.

Finally making some good progress on the car! I am loosely following the methods of extreme for executing my rear stretch. However I am doing things a little differently. Instead of retaining the original shock towers I decided to move the original shock towers back. I didn't really like the idea of having 4 sets of shock towers in the engine bay.  Also by doing this, I was able to create more space for airflow and packaging components around the engine. This weekend I got the garage straightened up and loosely mounted my body to start planning the tube frame and other various fabricated items. The body is still sitting a little high on the chassis, as I have to trim a few things here and there.

The rear chassi jig is now complete. Just need to build new shock towers and tube frame everything together.

Mike, have you looked at the Camaro/Firebird 90's era windshield for a solution?  Top to  bottom it's a go but I'm not sure how wide it is.
