Title: OEM Murcielago frame (total fire dmaged)
Post by: bierhanzel on April 02, 2014, 01:42:19 AM
Hello. Dear friends I have the opportunity ( here in europe) to buy original chassis murcielago (mainly because of documents for my murcie build) Unfortunately, this chassis was totally destroyed by fire. Do you think that will be damaged? I mean twisted heat? It is clear to me that all sheets KO. But I mean pipes and profiles. I'm thinking of building a new vehicle or real replica OEM chassis! Or just OEM plans for people!

Do you know how much similar destruction chassis can buy in the U.S.? As the price moves in the market?

The heat from the fire can damage the metal frame

It is now reportedly sandblasted and powder-coated base paint.

If your plan is to measure the frame and create plans or your own frame based on those measurements, and you are getting the chassis cheap enough to make that worth it, I say that is a great idea. I'd personally love to do that.

If you plan to use this particular chassis in a car, forget it! The metal is definitely weakened by the fire. Look at the firewall area (likely the hottest point of the fire). The metal is melted / eaten away - it is gone. If you look at the frame that supports that area, you can see damage they couldn't sand blast away or paint over. This is just the visible damage. I guarantee, there is damage there you can't see too. You can tell form the pre-painted pic that that fire burned all the way to the front of the car which means in the back where it likely started, it burned hot and long. Not good.

I don't know what the going rate for a frame in this condition is but I believe John Watson still has a burned out frame. I believe Victor (Dr. Murcielago) in the U.S. may have one too. You may want to contact them to see what they are asking before you take the plunge.

Hehehe, yeah, it looks like the bottom of the seats are still attached to the frame!

I don't know......it kind of reminds me of my donor Fiero that lived in Michigan all of it's life (cut down early by highway salt).

I would have serious doubt about the integrity of the metal behind the passenger compartment . The front section and passenger compartment are likely ok . Just bc it is clean painted and pretty now does not make the metal strong.

I would do some research on whether fire damaged metal is ok to RE use

I don't even think it is worth the trouble. With a fire like that, you already know the answer.

Sheet metal parts are from sandblasting destroyed almost all of them. He who uses strong sandblasting. Also I do not understand why varnished not cleaned and undismantled chassis. Too bad works ... bolted seat, electric cable screwed in firewall, steering wheel fixing, etc. ..

if you bought this frame i would recommend someone test the poopie out of it.  Check all the welds.  My wife is a NDT she said dont even touch it but if you do you really need to have a weld inspector test it.
