Registration of your vehicle can vary from state to state. Most states will have you do a assembled vehicle title and they assign you a vin #. some states that require inspection mat require the frame  be inspected or proof of certified welds. You should go to your DMV and ask what the requirements are for your state. These are things you must do before completing your build. This is why most people use a doner car with a manufactures vin. Even these cars may have to be coverted to a assembled vehicle title depending on your state. Many people don't transfer the title from their doner car, get a car from another state and don't transferr it to their name till end of build then have tons of problems registering it. Also swapping the engine of a doner car can totally screw you at registration the state wants to know how you are gonna smog it. They may make you do a engine swap cert. Pre planning your registration before a build is a must. Many people sell off their cars when finding they can't register them and all that hard work is for what? Contact your DMV and they should answer all your questions. You can't win fighting the state so try to comply. :santa
