from day one my RPM gauge no workie on my 99 3.8 s/c. I know you have to run a wire from coil pack harness , it's the white wire that does not continue going through male/female connector. I was told add a pin into the empty connector and run wire to gauge. I'd send the gauge to VDO instruments guys ,they checked and nothing is wrong with it. so I run separate wire again from that wht direct to gauge and not working . SO any Idea who has 3.8 and VDO gauge.

There are as many as 8 pins on the back of the tach. The wire from the coil or ECM must go to pin #4. Pin #2 is hot and pin #3 is ground. The others are not used for this style of connection. Then there are three tiny DIP switches by the terminals. They must be set according to number of cylinders. There is also a potentiometer on the back but this is only used with an alternator feed connection. Play with that as a last resort, but remember where it started from. If VDO says it worked, that makes me think it is in the feed line. If all else fails, set it up as alternator fed and run that line. It will be the W,R,or I alternator terminal and it will also go to pin #4.

76Mx ,so I think I've got the problem solved ,going with the alternator works first . It worked for Rodney that way too.

I love it when a plan comes together. Don't forget that this method needs to be calibrated with the tach potentiometer. You must be in Texas if it is freezing right now.

ok I've got one more for you
my ECM was flashed blah blah, so when I want to start it takes good 3 cranks of total 10 seconds till the pump starts to flow then it starts' OK, I took that wire ,split and direct feed the pump before cranking so she flows and turn the key on start. nothing again it takes
few seconds to prime while cranking and starts. >:(

Sorry Eddie, I cant help you on that one. Maybe a mechanical fuel pump?

i think its something to do with the ecm . original car should have 3 secs delay. i'm going to ask the man to take the ecm and check for flaws. thanks
