Hey Guys
I am finally getting started on my build so I thought I would start a build diary. Just got settled into my new house, got my garage almost done with the A/C going. I didn't get much done but I did find a couple of hours to play. I am pleased with the kit but it does have it's issues like many others do but I have been waiting to get started for so long that i am happy with it. Enjoy the pics.

Thank you. I got the kit from Lamboreplica he was honest even with the flaws. The kit originally came from a builder in SC, the kit is known as the Rav2. Lamboreplica has reworked one of these to a much cleaner version and I plan on buying more parts he will be making for this kit.

I am glad to see that you are going to be building one, do you know how you are going to stretch the Boxster yet? Thank you I am loving the a/c in a nice garage, beats the country barns and gravel I have worked in for the last 15yrs. I feel that the stretch will be very easy on this car. All the a/c and brake lines will bend so I don't have to cut and repair/refill, should be just a few coolant lines- oh and cut and weld and all that but it looks easy. I have a detailed video that I got from Mike Vetters on his stretch of a Boxster and murci kit start to finish. Nice guy and the vids are worth the expense.

Diablo Roadster- its been finished for a little over a year... Im closing on a new house now, so soon as I get moved and settled Im swapping out the sbc/archie kit with a twin turbo ls1/th425 and respray the paint job...

I haven't made much progress as I have been a little under the weather along with the rest of the family. I ended up getting bad news on my wheels after I already bought the tires. Turns out that they haven't made them and not sure if they will ever make them, Tire Rack ended up refunding my money after they found that out. Origanally designed for a vette. 20x12.5 for the rear less than $250.00 each and about the same for the fronts. Oh well I'll just keep looking for what I want.

I told myself that I wasn't going to get caught up in the details but theres a few things about this kit that aren't even close, so I proceeded to chop cut and rework the shape on the front end. I built a wooden frame on wheels to make it easier to work on.

I will post some more current pics in a few days. I am wanting to make the front spoiler piece from carbon fiber just haven't started yet. I have a roll that I got from a friend but I'm not sure what to use it on because it's 30inX100ft of straight unidirectional (not woven), more for structural vs cosmetic. Not sure how this will look so I might just spring for some 2x2 twill.

Thanks for the link IKR. I had ordered the 20x12.5 wheels but they never made them, but they might one day. There is a few company's that advertise this size but don't really have them.

It was really easy, I sent them to weldcraft wheels in Mi ::rocker

Updates. I have been spending a lot of time fixing bad fiberglass and some of the design issues with my kit. With that said I want to give a little tip for the guys that are building kits or will be. Body filler was not a product made just for body kits and is not supposed to be used to fill giant holes, cracks, or for anything that is structural. It can be used up to 1/8in thick anything deeper than that you should be using fiberglass or fiberglass reinforced body filler then a thin layer of filler. I have been in the paint and body industry for 15yrs and I am not claiming that what I do is the best way, I just want to improve the quality of kit builds- mine and others. I have found spots of filler on this car over an inch thick and over areas that were cracked all the way threw the body. I have also seen a few other build threads that seem to be building the car with way too much body filler, this kind of stuff will surely crack and need to be refinished again.

Sorry I just wanted to vent a bit. Now for actual updates. I did the front spoiler out of carbon fiber but I still need to get it mounted so it just sitting there for the pic. It turned out pretty good, not 100% accurate but much better than what was there originally.

Thank you sir! I did some work on the passenger side vent- it was all wrong. I did the best I could with it. theres only so much you can fix. I didn't take many pics of this but when I re-do the driver side I will show a little more detail on how I did it. 1st pic is a real car, second is how mine looked. I started fixing holes then realized I needed to change it all together.

I cut along the edges and pushed that piece in about an inch the glassed it into place from the backside and then had to remove some material from the front. From there I then glassed the front to build it back out to the shape I was looking for. Sanded and reshaped fairly close and then I used Tiger Hair (fiberglass reinforced body filler) to get a more refined shape all while trying to minimize the amount of filler used. I am not quite finished with this side. It needs one more coat of tiger hair then a this coat of light weight filler. Should be done tonight.

Thanks guys. I didn't even think about doing it the coupe color. I guess it would be too unrealistic to make it a really wild color. Even if I won 100 milloin in the lottery I doubt I would spring for a 2 million dollar car and even more doubtful would be to repaint it some off color, who knows what that would do to the value! I went to the state fair this weekend and there was a matte red metallic Chevy that was wicked color. I found a diecast Reventon in this color and it looks cool but I think it might be more realistic to stick with one of the OEM matte colors.

Not much of an update, still just doing bodywork and waiting for parts but I did get in some Gallardo mufflers. I temporally put them on just to here the sound. I got a lot of rattle from the valves because I didn't hook them up. The tone was nicer in person and doesn't translate well into video. I am sure many of us had this cross their mind and I realize my flat 6 is a little diffrent from what most guys are using but I wanted to share this for the guys pondering the same idea. My attempt to getting the ::LAMBO sound.

Definitely makes a big difference, I think once you hook up the valves and get rid of the rattle it will sound a lot better. Now I have to look for an OEM muffler ::toothy

Update. I have been sick then my daughter got sick so it took me a couple of weekends to get the rocker/ side skirt reworked on the passenger side. Thanks to USMC_butler I was able to get the rocker to look a little closer to the real thing. One mans junk is another mans treasure.

Another pic of the old side skirt and the one I got from Dustin. I straightened the jam edge and then cut off the rest. The back curved section is where the originals really failed so I cut the wavy bottom side off of the donors then glassed it into place.

I then did a layup on a ss table to get a flat panel for the bottom piece. I cut to it shape and then glassed that to the other piece from the under side and then filled the outer edge with milled fibers.

Sanded then used Tiger Hair filler,sanded again, then light weight filler. I need one more coat of filler then its ready for primer. Going to work on the driver side this weekend. Oh I also have some mesh grille coming in this week so I will also fit them in before I move on to the next side.

Any concerns as to panel movement after it is installed on your chassis resulting in different coutours etc? I have a friend in Texas that did his body work before installing it on his chassis. As both of us have the same body, I chose to wait until the body is more permanently fixed.

Thanks for the heads up. The body being on this stand was with these exact thoughts in mind. The body wasn't ridged enough to support its self and was leaning a bit in the rear (from sitting unsupported for a while) it was also sectioned mid rocker. So I built this stand to support it and numerous measurements told me the wheel base was off on one side and I was able to correct that as well as straightened areas all around it. My plan is to get as much inner bracing as I can do while on the stand so the body stands a chance at being straight before and after being mounted. I am not trying to get all body work done before mounting it just the major areas and flaws. Most of the problem areas are- any and all the edges of this body all around the bottom, wheel openings, and any where else edges exist. So I felt like framing the body first would give me better access to these areas and would be easier to repair them with minimal interference all while keeping it straight. Also rocker/ jam area would be much easier not on the donor. One more reason is I am lazy so I can do some of the work while setting in a chair. ;)

Thanks, Texas for the update. You have made some good points about the body work that needs to be done. Another point that I found on my body was a thin area in the lay up of the cloth. It might help to have someone hold a trouble light close to the surface while you watch from the underside to locate any problem areas that will require more build up.

Any variations in the thickness of the fiberglass body will cause the fiberglass to expand at different rates when the sun heats it. Expanding at different rates will show up as ripples in the body that will make people think you did a bad job with your body finishing.
You will never get it perfect but trying is better than not.

Update: I'm going to post several pics in a few showing how I reworked the side vent on the drivers side(US). This area is very off on dimensions and shape so I did what I could with the given parameters. I missed a few pics along the way but most of the steps are here. The goal was to re shape it the best I could,and make a separate center to be covered in CF which will be sanded and sprayed with a matte clear when the car is painted. Enjoy

I cut out what I didn't want.

Moved the lower corner in and glassed it back in. Started the inside pieces.

Inside pieces all in place. Fiberglass filler applied. Also the black stuff you see is panel bond, it really speeds this process up. This is common autobody stuff and the one I'm using sets in 1.5 min so you can move on to the next piece. It beats waiting on resin to set when you have limeted time and it's super strong. Its not a total replacement for fiberglass just a tool to speed up the building process, it is pricey though.

This is the inner workings of the separated vent piece. The tape is about 1/8th in thick to make room for the CF and paint that will be applied.

Any ideas what you'll do in the sail panel/batwing area? I'm very interested to see if you have a fix in mind for that area as the quarter glass kind of tucks under the batwing by a couple inches, but the kit is just plain flat.

I have a few pics to post but I haven't been able to get much done as work has kept me busy. I was asked about the rocker area and how I attached them, the pictures will show some of what was done. First I got the pieces square and in place then I used panel bond to "tack" them in place then glass then in from the backside then I use milled fibers and resin to fill the gaps on the front side. A couple of coats of filler and it's good until I get the body on the chassis and go back over the entire car.

I had a really tough time deciding on wheels as I am sure most of us do. For the Reventon the selection is very scares but I finally made a choice to have custom wheels made. I almost bought the Zinik Z28 wheels but found out that they were being discontinued and the bigger reason I decided against them is these are directional wheels and the Zinik wheels are only made going the same direction so one side will look fine but the other side the wheels will be going the wrong way and I just couldn't get past that. There was a company that made a select run of the style of wheel I am getting but they didn't want to make anymore so I had another company make them and he is willing to make more if anybody wants them.

The wheels are getting powdercoat now so I will post pics when I get them back. Centercaps are on there way also so don't pay attention to these. The fins will be covered in CF.

Lambiero I have thought about this long and hard and I'm OK with them going in the wrong direction as long as I'm in reverse however I will just minimize my usage of reverse. OCD got to find creative solutions ya know. ???

That's some fine machine work! It's hard to imagine the hours that go into producing something like a wheel without seeing it first hand. I already have 16 hours worth of programming in the Reventon fuel door and I'm only half way done ::counfused
Are you making a mold for the carbon pieces?

Looking good as always Tex. I'm super jealous of the wheels you're having made. I think I'll send you a PM to see how much they are, though it kills me that I didn't wait for this and already have some Lambo wheels. Ah well, the ebay fix is always around for dumb decisions.
I have the body mocked up on the MR2 right now, and the quarter glass area sits right on the B-pillar/quarter panel, so I hope that modifying you did still allows it to sit down nice and flush. I cut mine down as far as I could without going into the inner structure and I'm surprised how nice it sits there, though it looks like crap (not even close to OEM).
edit: for the fins in the wheels - is this a job for a plastic printer covered in carbon fiber? I think it might be ::thumbup

In response to some PM questions theses wheels will be 19x8.5 fronts and 20x13 rears and he will design and make 3pc wheels for $650.00 per wheel so I paid $2600.00 plus $280.00 for packing and shipping.

I've been busy with everything but the car; I thought I would show where I'm at with the rear hatch/humps/batwings area. Still have much more to do, I had to start with some inner bracing to get some areas straight and level.I had to extend the front and rear of the hatch and I will eventually re make the sides as well.

Ohhhhhh those wheels are sick!!!! If I may ask. How much did manufacturing cost you? I have such a hard time finding rims that will take 315 tyres at the back, let alone a design I might like. BBS which is
available here, only goes to 9,5 " wide which isn't enough for 315 tyres. I most probably will be looking at a design I like and then have the rears widened. Again you chose beautiful rims..nn I'm jelous!!!!!

Finally got the fronts and the rears should be in soon.They look really nice in person. Tomorrow I will start making a mold of some sort for the CF fins and paint the inner hoop black as well as the center cap chrome will be black. ::headbang

It took me all weekend to get one CF fin made. I still need to drill holes for the bolts, sand and matte clear it. I see this taking forever. Every wheel has a different fin. For this trial I made a template and then laid two layers of CF on-top of the template and then the epoxy takes forever to set then cut to shape. The only thing I can think of to speed this process up is to make the other three templates and lay up four pieces at a time. ::scratch

Looks good! Can you mix the epoxy a little "hot" so it sets faster? Or sometimes there are different hardeners that set faster. Like how auto paint works.

I like to post pictures showing each step all at one time but the problem lately is I've been bouncing around all over the place making some progress here and there. Scatter brain. I've been working on the wheels, batwing area, and some inner frame work as well. The rear wheels came in yesterday! Bad pic I know.

I am planning a Boxster based build also and have been struggling with the wheel spacer issue. Have you given that any thought? I have considered negative offset wheels which I dont think look right and I also have considered lengthening the control arms. I would like to avoid the spacers if possible because of the quality of the ride, the look, and the wear and tear on the bearings. Have you run into any other fitment issues with the body on the chassis?

Here are some pictures of my random progress. I had a wisdom tooth pulled today so I'm not going to type much. :-[ this is the rear diffuser I cut the vents but not finished.

Alan I was drunk as a skunk ::tongue I fell asleep in the middle of a post ::zzzzz. Thanks Lance. The glass is late 90's Maxima. I have a cheap aftermarket windshield and at the hard angle that it is mounted it is very distorted I will be on the look out for OEM Maxima glass in hopes that it will be clear. Here is some more stuff.

My kit didn't come with any interior parts but I was able to borrow some from a friend so I could make copies. Interesting to see the difference int the two body styles. Here is a dash being copied. And my dash!

Hey autopro I didn't make the seats but I plan to make them a little wider in the mid section for fat boys like me. I haven't touched the Boxster but not worried about it that stuff goes faster than fiberglass work. ::beers

It's been a while and I haven't really touched the car. I have been making parts for members and I am almost done with that current round of orders so I made some time for my car. I got the majority of the inner structure done so I got it off the stand.

Hey guys just want to show my portion of the Reventon gauge setup that Solrac and I were working on. So the thought behind this was to get as close to OEM gauges as possible and I took what was already out there and improved/ re-made it. I opened it up so I could fit 2- 7in screens and did a few things so it would be easier to mount the pod. This is going to be a lot of step by step pics but I hope someone can learn from it. Enjoy. First is Solrac's old pod- it was really ruff but the top design was enough to build off of. I cut the bottom off of it.

And to make it easier to mount in the dash I reverse molded the dash so it would fit just perfect. Then I made just the lower part of a g28 shark mouth. And started test fitting.

Bonded the parts together and started caking filler on. I forget how many layers it took but it was a bunch. I used a gallon of filler to make the plug!!!

Some Finnish sanding waxing and mold release. You can see the underside is shaped so it fits right onto the dash with no gaps. Top side of the mold.

And the top mold with a brace to keep it from sucking in. The first part pulled.

An attempt to make a carbon pod. And starting the same process again on the inside.

More prep, primer, sanding, wax and then mold. Plug broke removing the mold.

First real part pulled.

Second one! To attach the inside bezel sand with 36 grit paper clean and I used.... Panel bond :LL: So it dries fast and I didn't get a pic of where I put the adhesive but I put a bead on both parts on the front and rear edge.

Ok last round. So this is where I'm at currently and this is running one of the early versions of Solrac program but you get the idea of what it should look like. I am still working on the dividers. I will update when I get there. ::wave

Hey fellas. Made a little progress. I normally take lots of pictures but I was too focused on the tasks at hand. Big thanks to USMC-Butler for driving down and helping with the stretch ::salute. Stripping the dash sucks.

those dash's are a pain in the butt to get apart... everything is screwed to everything else... looking good though !
the stretch will be easier than the dash, just be sure to disconnect all the plastic hoses under the driver side... you can actually keep them in tact by removing some of their mounts and stretching also... it will save issues later.
the fuel cell though... no way to get rid of that passenger side filler... but if you need a picture of what it looks like out of the car to give you and idea, i have several.

Thanks for the info Digibeam. I would say all thing considered this is an easy stretch but there are some challenges to the dash area. Cut in half in 10min. Dustin welding together a couple hours with plenty of time for beer in between welds. You can see the hoses and lines when it's pulled apart.

Mr B welding her up. 2nd pic I started putting the coilovers on and you can see where Dustin made the floor pan to cover the gap. All welled and seam sealer on the seams. 3rd pic was the first test fit. Had to scalp the dash area more.

I know this is hard to see but it is easy to do. Cutting and extending the coolant lines. It's a pain but all other lines and hoses will stretch or re route.

KSport coilovers installed. The birds nest Digibeam referred to.

I relocated the evap system to the front trunk as well as the filler neck and battery. Second test fit looks much better and it's running and driving. I will update when I make some more progress.

It's been awhile and I won't go into detail but 50+hours of body work and a coat of primer to protect it until I go at it again! Hood sand doors are just sitting on it. Oh and it runs and drives!!!
