Title: Need wiring diagram for OEM Aventador tail lights
Post by: Neils88 on November 27, 2016, 03:44:16 PM
I have OEM Aventador tail lights for my build.  Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the OEM lights or info on how to connect them?  The connector is an eight pin connector (7 pins, 1 blank).  The tail lights have a large number of LEDs inside and I don't want to simply hook up 12Vdc through "trial and error" in case that damages any of the LEDs.  I'm not sure if an LED driver control board is required?  These were pricey so I'd really like to hook them up properly.   ::scratch

I'm not sure, now days cars with LED tails and front are controlled by module .

That's what I was expecting.  I have no problem setting up an LED driver if I can get the LED specs...but I'm really hoping someone has already figured all this out.

check with these guys ,they can give some insight on controllers and wiring ,they are very busy so be patient. following your build, very nice job.

Thanks for the links.  I'll try to get in touch with them and see what they say.

I figured out the wiring for the OEM Aventador tail light.  For those that are interested, the numbers reference what is stamped on the connector for each pin (I actually cut the connector off since I really can't use it, but I labelled the wires according to their pin numbers)...

The first two are just regular automotive light bulbs:
  Reverse light:  #2 = +12V  #7 = Gnd
Small red corner light:  #1 = +12V  #8 = Gnd  (...no clue what this light is for...???)

The rest of the lighting uses LEDs.  Power using a constant current LED driver.  I'll post the actual power measurements later:
  Turn signal:  #5 = + from LED driver  #7 = Gnd
Brake lights (two outer chevrons):  #4 = + from LED driver  #7 = Gnd
Brake lights (inner chevron):  #3 = + from LED driver  #7 = Gnd

I'll need to run the Brake lights at about 25% for normal tail lights, then switch to 100% when brake pedal pushed.

I used a LE-LL31XV110 converter, with the PWM supplied from an Arduino.

Just an update for those wanting to use the wiring information in this thread....

Please note that the amber turn signals only work on European spec tail lights. There are no leds installed in the North American spec tail lights. For those in the US/ Canada, the red chevrons are used for brake lights and turn signals.

Shoutout to Neil for his help tackling this mystery! Like Neil said, the US spec lights don't have the amber turn signal lights (pin #5) See pics. I ended up drilling into the area and adding my own amber lights. I then used this LED driver for the brake light/run light combo, works like a charm! I ran the run light at 30% and brake light at 100%. Hope this helps someone out!

I had looked at various options in trying to use the same LEDs for both taillight and brake lights. I was able to use a 100 ohm resister and a couple diodes to make that work. Of course, mine are not OEM lights but the concept is the same. Documented here: https://youtu.be/H3ktWpCKkok
