Inline V8 and crank timing mark

When an inline engine is installed in a mid-engine car, the timing mark is difficult if not impossible to access.  If you are running a distributor, you will want to use a timing light to get the engine running best.  I made a glove box in the middle of my console between the seats.  Then I cut an access hole in the rear of the box with a cover plate held in with two screws.  I just open the glove box door, remove two screws, take the plate out, and can see the timing marks on the engine balancer.  The hole is about 5" square and provides enough area to direct the timing light and watch the timing marks.  You can have a friend rotate the distributor until you have the timing you want. 
If you don't have a center glove box between your seats, you can make an access panel directly in the firewall.  Just make it look like it belongs.
