Tantukka,
I need a source for glass. I have several options but see this as a possible better option, and P4S has been kind enough to post the link. When you say that you can ask for a price quote, I appreciate your offer and effort but can't I do that myself? Do I need a referral or promo code or something to get this astounding pricing? I agree that there is no point in paying shipping on plugs, I would rather pay you the same money to CNC them. The examples of auto glass on the website are all left hand drive cars and I cannot find anything that says that they cannot make DOT approved glass, yet P4S says they cannot, do either of you have more info on that?
It's not that their glasses are not able to cover the DOT requirements and tests for strength, however, they simply don't have the papers to be certified for DOT. They use the same materials, suppliers and process.

Tantukka,
I have hundreds of hours researching glass for my Concept Car and nothing comes remotely close to that. I am ready to order now. All of the guys wanting door glass for their Countach are right behind me. AB is in for a couple of windshields and I know others that want Diablo glass. This is a pretty big order, how do we make it happen?

This would mean multiple different plugs, multiple different molds and then small quantity of each glass. Example my windshield process. I did mill my own plug, and coated it that it was strong enough for process of making mold. Then i took it to one company who produced me the mold, and that company shipped it to second company who made me a glass. This glass was a sample glass what will need to be test fitted that the curvature is perfect, and then its time for bigger quantities. The sample glass is in the photo what inspirecomposite posted here. It dosen't have the black borders. But those black borders are included the price, after paying 500usd for screen-printing template.

Shipping is also risky. Container takes weeks to arrive there, and there is always a risk of broken item. So it would need a insurances. Think if one of the glasses will get broken, and that one is a single pcs glass. it would be very expensive to send that one single glass again. So it can be done, but risk is bigger, and shipping plus the insurances are not cheap. If u would live nearby I would be happy to make u few glasses no problem.

If U really need this order, send me pm and I can ask price quote. But then we have to use incoterm FOB Helsinki or something for the shipping. It would be very important to have a accurate 3D models of the glasses that I can cnc mill them. There is no point to start sending plugs from there to here.

I'm giving you the link to a Bulgarian car glass manufacturer, which also could make you custom glasses with E-marking for use in EU (no DOT approval, however) at competitive prices. Keep in mind that I can't be a mediator for a deal, since I live in another city (and I'm not interested in doing such work unless I'm paid super high compensation that only Floyd Mayweather could afford; just joking). You can contact them directly and, if prices are good, to arrange shipping with that company on your own. http://www.autoglass-bg.com/en/%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BD%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%B8-%D0%B0%D0%B2%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%82%D1%8A%D0%BA%D0%BB%D0%B0/

This is just an example of the complexity they could achieve. Most custom glass shops are not capable to do it. Front windshield for Aeromaster LMP: https://scontent-fra3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/t31.0-8/11036955_1635690870001187_2073128286286959554_o.jpg

So here is where we are at on this deal. We know that we can have a mold made for $500USD and the windshields are $250USD each after that, and now we also have an endorsement of their quality. We MIGHT be able to find a manufacturer in Mexico (I have a shop in Mexico City), they MIGHT be able to beat that price by a few dollars, and they MIGHT do decent work. I am not interested in spending a lot of time on a Mexico effort to MAYBE save $20, just give us the info on the first company and let us get on with this. Either way we will have to pay crating, shipping, and customs.

I have seen in person the quality of custom glass Tantukka is talking about. Impressive work, and affordable prices! Anyone asking you a few thousands of dollars for a windshield copy simply wants to rip you off due to lack of availability. Having that said, I think that American builders may be able to find an affordable solution from some glass manufacturer in Mexico.

Has anyone contacted thses guys about making windshields for your cars?
http://www.opticarmorwindows.com/race-windows.asp

I know alot of racers are using them...

Yes, I have. They have a hardened coat that goes on the Lexan after shaping. I have not seen it but they say it is far superior to the scratchproofing coat on Lexan, especially since the forming process tends to kill that coat. The problem is that I cannot get a DOT sticker on it. That does not mean that it is not DOT approved, it means that they are not approved to put a sticker on it. This might be a product for Chris to look at for his headlight covers.

The only problem with polycarbonate is that it isnt very scratch resistant so your wipers would destroy it in short order

For that price and as much product that would be ordered, I think it should be an easy thing to build a crate that will protect them for shipping

I am not interested to start selling glasses  just wanted to write the price that people should be looking for. Shipping over seas is not risk free. Best to find local windshield manufacturer.

Yes but the local manufacturer is $3,000 per windshield. Can you at least give me the contact info for the $250 windshield?

this is the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH3fAyJrEYo

all that is needed is the profile line of the glass for scoring and mold making. the mold is simple to, just need a plasma cutter and some steel sheet.

why dont you machine your own molds?

Be glad to if that works for Tantukka. What material, inside or outside profile, where do I send them? If they have to be shipped overseas, would just emailing a toolpath program be more economical? I cannot build it and ship it for the $500 to build it there.
