I suggest a Miller with autoset function. Takes any guess work out of setting power/feed until your able to get some experience. I've been using a friends Miller 212 for a while now and it welds great.
Can't go wrong with Lincoln or Esab either.
Esab is the best bang for the buck from my research. Check out he Migmaster 280. They have a smaller one as well.

Hey there,

I got my doctorates from Youtube as well.  I have a Firepower 160 amp that has a 220volt and I use gas.  I recommend 220volt welder for the heavier welding.  Good luck.

I use a millermatic 210 with gas. Very nice welds, super easy to setup, and will last forever and if you ever get tired of using it they hold there value quite well!

You will have a YouTube Doctorate in no time! Welcome to the forum ::beers

i was in the same position u where a while back. i have no experience welding and just wanted for my personal project. I got a miller. millermatic 211. I heard ppl bought cheap welders and they broke after one or two uses. Or just the wire fed things didnt work right. Go for a good welder. Miller or Lincoln. You can find really good ones in craiglist. You dont want to have another head ache besides ure project. lol. Tools shouldnt be a headache so i would suggest just buy a good one.

I am not sure where u located at but look at this one. as you can see craiglist has good deals.

I am just getting started with my build and am looking for suggestions on which model, and/or minimum maximum power. I have heard/seen that Lincoln is a good brand. I don't need top of the line, just one to get the job done.
I bought my my Diablo with an already stretched chassis but many spots are just tacked, I need to do the seams as well as all the fab stuff throughout the rest of the build.
I'm not an experienced welder, but am working on my Master's Degree from YouTube University !
