Working on the engine lid, with the help of my son , Amare

What are you using metal studs for???
-
What are you using metal studs for???
I liked them because they were light weight material, that added regedity and, shape that I was going for. But I'm always open to suggestion, especially for u Rod ::beers
-
Removable Rockers, I love to bounce around and do various things on the build, as to not get burnt out .plus I used to be this big fine art guy (fine art major) So much like how I would paint. I would work on various area's of a drawing/painting and watch it all come together. Just have to make sure u work with balence and quality!
-
Fenders are removable
-
From another art major, welcome aboard. Good to start'em off young. Swap those studs for cold roll steel tube. Getter done!
-
Windshield frame. Almost every panel will be removable on my car. I also have a roll bar behind the seats so this isent a "structural " part.
-
Have you tried to fit the decklid with those studs on? Metal studs are not the norm, honestly I use metal studs everyday at work and I cannot see how they can be used. Usually 1/2" square tubing is used around all the decklids. And the windshield support frame needs to be solid as possible with little to no flex in the frame. I use round tubing 1.5" around that support and it has to be tied into the rockers far back along the door jamb as possible

Link to door progress! enjoy ::beers

Body windshield frame will be removable. I want access to everything!

Checked out your vid. It's coming along nicely. The doors are the biggest hurdle. Keep up the good work.

Hey bro , thank u. This is all so new to me but I'm loving it. Thx

You might want to rethink that, the windshield frame adds structural integrity to the chassis and should add some rollover protection

I was referring to the farm. Plus I already have a role cage

Quarter panel is now separate and removable ::beers
-
tip for all newbies, separating panels (fenders, quarter ,eat..) is lot of work. but u can do it!
-
Have you started making the flanges to mount all of the panels back together? This is a lot of work but it will make your car look so much better in the end.

working on gaps...no filler, just adjustments :drool :santa
-
She takes a lot of attention
-
More glass work. I like to sandwich in small pieces of cardboard in-between the fiberglass mat, its cheap and it adds lots a strength. :CSS
-
From above, body is fully removable .. Even the quarter panels
-
Again, no filler. still making adjustments searching for that "perfect" position. Once i have it. ill move on to another part that needs my attention... :santa

I totally agree, my whole body is vertically removable for aesthetics and assessable purposes . I love this adventure of the build so far!

-

Thank u Rod, that means a lot coming from such a long time builder such as urself..it's been tough sometimes overwhelming. But something within me said to keep going. I'm still interested in having some interior work done . But we can talk about that later . Cool?

Just fooling around with the passenger door a little bit

From your pictures, it appears that the bottom of the quarter panel and the top of the rocker, both brackets need to be moved outward a tad to line up the correct contour. This should match the contour of the rear of the door. Jim

Yea my body was made with that flaw. I have tried to correct it. Perhaps I should try harder . Thanks Jim #goodeye

Making Brackets for driver side rocker.

Minihawn: I found a quarter panel pic for you to look at. It appears that I may have been slightly mistaken. It looks like the rocker does stick out a little. Your discretion on how much. See the attached pic. :'( ::scratch Jim

-
Thank you ::beers. As for the red diablo. hmmm, not sure but it looks like it. how have things been with ur build?

Don't know. PM to rshaef who is a member here. Lexington, va.
-
Red car is an ifg vt model
-
that moment she actually starts to feel like a car. #Priceless
-
My build is coming along very slow. I just finished up a moderate restoration on a truck and sold it. I started redoing (3) ATV's right now then I'm highly concentrating on my Eleanor and the Bandit Trans Am. Still have the Diablo for sale but not trying to push the issue because I still would like to finish it for myself, lol. If I could donate a solid month to the Diablo it could be done but as you heard too many projects pulling me from every which way. I was gonna say the red Diablo has alot of the same parts as mine does and just wanted that reassurance that mine is an IFG. Keep up the good work and maybe when I'm in Columbus sometime you can show off the Roadster! TTYL
-
I sure will try to keep up the good work .. Kit cars r vary demanding , as I'm sure u know . And u bet I'll show off the roadster . And show u around Columbus ::beers
Ps I don't get how guys say there looking for a Diablo , yet don't by urs. Which is an awsome, good quality build. And ur right. I would have been done with ur car by now. We live and we learn ::study
-
Alot of the appreciation of a replica is building it which you are doing. Yes very demanding, not only is the building demanding the time in the parts searching can be very demanding as well. On the Diablo buying comment, Ya I don't know why someone hasn't bought it yet. I had lots of interest but mostly dreamers without the cash in which we all been there once, lol. Well if it does sell i'll give someone a good deal, but if not I will have my Diablo dream come true in the near future. P.S. Your roadster will be a gem when its done ::thumbup, i love looking at your progress pics and how you are so involved in the car. That feeling in itself makes me wish I sold you mine, it would have had a good home! ::LAMBO ::toothy

The interior that I'm starting with
-
Vents ....
-
Door cards came like this...still debating on whether or not I'll leave them alone or try and convert them
-
If I were you I would work on them to make them look better, authentic replication is usually a good route to go. As to any car the exterior, paint and finish, needs to look the best and your interior needs to complement that. But aside to all of that make sure safety is your number one priority!

Getting the driver side rocker together
-
minihawn...
You are working your way through your build.
I'd like to point out the original Lambos have an 1/8" thick black spacer/shim between the rocker and quarter panel. I am using black ABS sheet cut to size.
This is also used between the rear bumper and quarter panel and between the front fender and rocker. I am also going to run a black 1/8" spacer between the front bumper and front fenders and front trunk lid to continue the pattern.

RT: thank where can I get some of this? Also I'm still looking for ideas of how to mount my dash. If u have any thanks

Adjusting the pass fender...
-
I forgot to take a before picture but let me assure you it looks much better already
-
Had to upgrade my garage heating source ..100 % better
-
Rebuilding my passenger door and bracing the more you build on these cars the more you learn, or so I have. But I'm trying not to fall into the trap of redoing every little detail every time I have a better idea but the doors is one thing that I just could not and will not shortcut
-
that re enforce 1 x 1 i think it will interfere with side glass.
-
Did the measurements , it won't but thank u
-
that re enforce 1 x 1 i think it will interfere with side glass.
Nothing is welded/bonded yet, any suggestions?
-
well i had to two set of door shells due to the guy who splashed NAERC body totally fhaked it up. but second shells i bought from Ron and thingies are good. my glass comes down to the outer skin , like maybe 1' away. that is why i thought glass may be in the way. you should get glass or lexan to try out with the regulator . at one point i did not work on that darn car for year.
peed me off .
door shell should be latched and hinge( and lined up with A pillar) in close position , then work up the regulator. that's what i did.
i do not have center re enforcement bar in doors. if you get T boned that ain't gonna help anyway .
-
Take notes, do whatever you need to complete this thing.
-
Hi i have a naerc diablo windshield and rear quarter glass if you need it. Also have both door glass rubber/felt molding and tracks, latches, 2 types of rear spoilers, naerc dash, templates for complete interior, all from ken essler. just throwing it out there. No doors sorry.

thank u for sharing this with me. perhaps i could use the latches .
-
It doesn't come across clear in the picture however my quarter panel where it connects with the rocker is not entirely straight. It kinda bows inward a little . I was hoping anyone had ideas on how I could straighten this out I've been told applying heat helps
-
New steel for the build, I hate waiting but when it gets here I love it ::rocker rock on
