It's official, RT (Ron) will be bringing the incredible Diablo he has been building to the Carlisle-import-and-performance-nationals. I am also committing to bringing the Countach to the show.
The show is May 19 - 21, 2017, Ron says Saturday the 20th is the big turn out day especially if the weather is good. I am renting an enclosed trailer for the car and planning on leaving Thursday May 18th from Cambridge, Ontario to be at the event Friday for some of the show. Will be there all day Saturday and Sunday.
This year Velocity will be shooting a show at the event. This will create a draw along with the other events planned. Hear is a link to the details. http://www.carlisleevents.com/carlisle-events/carlisle-import-and-performance-nationals/default.aspx (http://www.carlisleevents.com/carlisle-events/carlisle-import-and-performance-nationals/default.aspx)
If your part way building, thinking of building or have it built, come out! Guys like Ron will be there to answer all the questions about building and guys like myself for the ones "after the build".
Many of us have contributed to the forum over the years and this would be a great opportunity to meet face to face. Share some experiences and appreciation for the community of enthusiast!
Don't be the one that misses the event this year, it's gearing up to be THE ONE!
-
i WILL BE THERE WITH MINE...
WHO ELSE???
-
Get there early on Friday and Saturday as with all of the riceburners there, space is limited. Our area is just east of the VW Manx group and just north of the "Race Paddock" building. There's not much of a show on Sundays. Maybe they can move the riceburners to Sunday for their exhaust competition. I don't think that Carlisle does much for advertising as they list us with the "Kitcars" instead of Custom Replicas which is a better nameplate. Truck & Trailer parking has been moved to the southeast corner of the parking area. This makes it tough to drop off a car and try to negotiate the roped off areas to get equipment & chairs etc. to our area.

I'm going to be there! I'll trailer it up there and drive it around once there. May be able to give rides at some point. Pretty to cool to see the single injector vaporizer box thing in action. :-)
Thanks,
Coop

My tickets came in the mail from Carlisle this weekend!!! ::headbang
Had my stickers in there for the truck, trailer and car.
Now I need to get it running again so I can drive it into and out of the trailer! Gonna suck having to push otherwise!
Thanks,
Coop

I got mine yesterday too!!!!

Hey Guys, Quick question about Carlisle. I was thinking about selling my Diablo SE 30 replica again and thought about taking it to Carlisle but want your guys opinion. Is there serious buyers at the show or is it not worth my time and effort to take it there. I think once a serious buyer actually looks at the car and realize its current state they would buy it for the amount I am willing to take for it. I been to Carlisle for other shows but never made it to the replica/kit car show. Please, let me know your thoughts on the matter? Thanks John

Good question I seem to recall seeing cars for sale from shows in the past.

If you want to sell a car at Carlisle, they have a "Corral" section for cars for sale. You will have to place it in that section along with every other car for sale. I have seen kits and replicas there but don't know if any found buyers there. Look on their website for info.

Well I trying to make it there this year, last year the hospital stopped me. If all goes well I will try to get mine running and drag it over there.... Wish me luck. ::LAMBO
-
I plan to drive My red Diablo up on Saturday from Virginia if the weather holds. looks like a beautiful day from the forecast so far. Last year was thunderstorms and I don't drive it in bad weather.
-
That would be awesome if we could get a big line up going. Make a nice pic to rival the one from back in the day. ::thumbup
Thanks,
Coop

Sweet guys, got my tickets Friday, finally. Looking forward to seeing everyone!
-
This is sounding GOOD!
I have about a two hour drive and hope to leave home around 6 AM. I have all the required stickers to do a "gate and go" so I am ready. If you can, save me a spot with all the other Lambos, I don't want to be parked next to a VW something-or-other.
See you at Carlisle on Saturday!

Will do, what area are we suppose to be in again. If I recall the trailer parking was just behind it.
BTW my 21 year old son is joining me so by the time he gets up you may be parked before me.

If I'm not mistaken... we are here. In the middle where it says MIDWAY and Kit Cars, right under it. Next to Grand Stand and Seminars. We're in the middle of all the things to do.
Thanks,
Coop
-
I saw that but why would they put us at center stage after removing our name from the show? and where did they place the "Performance Cars", GM, Ford, & Chrysler? no where to be found. I think that they are staging the layout for the Velocity Channel. (They probably heard that RT is coming ::bounce ::headbang :drool). Who knows, maybe Dinner will show up also. ::bounce ::headbang Verrrry intelesting....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. The stage is set, the crowds are making a lot of noise in the great anticipation of the coming debut. Ooooooooooooooh, woooooooooooooooooooooow!!

New to site but seeking to purchase replica can any of you tell me if there will be a lot of owners there looking to sell ?
-
Yeah, my "in progress" car won't be all pretty, but everyone says they want to see the fumes car, so I'm bringing it.
There's a dedicated car corral for sales, who knows what be in there.
Thanks,
Coop
-
If that map is true and the "KIT CARS" (oh how I hate that term) are in that single lane of yellow, they didn't expect the Lambo turnout this year. We will have to "invade" the blue "KITS: SPEEDSTER" area. There is always the yellow area we used to be located that is now marked "Non make specific". The worst that can happen is we get chase around until they allow us to park.
RT
-
I'll just pull in early with my truck and trailer and block a whole area we need and say I'm not moving until you guys unscrew yourselves and make sure we're together. They won't like that. But maybe it'll keep us together.
::rocker
Coop
-
Coop,
That is very noble of you but I don't think we will have any actual problems staying together. Us veterans of Carlisle are seeing something different and are just venting. I think the other guys with "kit" cars will understand us wanting to be together and help us work it out. It would be a good idea if we all had a close idea of how many Lambos will be there so we can speak with some authority on how much room we need.
BTW, I appreciate the comments people are making about my showing up with a finished build. But I am just another builder who finally made the 3% group. More builders will be there soon. I am happy as can be that I did finally finish and want to share my accomplishment with all the other builders but don't really think, or expect, I should get any special attention.
Let's hope for nice weather for the show weekend.
RT
-
I was half joking. ::thumbup
But it sounds like 5 Diablo and 2 Countach so far. Could we get a count here please?
Coop, bringing my Diablo.
Thanks
-
Good idea...
Let's get a list here. Everyone bringing their car to Carlisle, finished or not, copy this list, and add your name and car, and put it in a reply.
1. Coop, Diablo (under construction)
2. RT, Diablo (finished - Saturday only)
Keep the ball rolling. Let's see how long this list gets.

I'm heading out in the morning. Will be staying in Mechanicsburg. Give me a shout if you would like to catch up tomorrow evening for any who are coming earlier. sisqocracker {AT} gmail [dot] com
Oh yeah, I got an alignment today!!! I'll have to post up the car with the pads hanging on the wheels in my build thread. ::bounce
Thanks,
Coop
-
So 6 or 7 lambos?
I think Murci me had a larger turnout at his get together at his house
-
Tusabes, true but don't be too hard on them. Seven Lambos will more than double the old attendance record for Carlisle.
-
I SO wish I could make it but it's just too far, and the high cost of travel to the east coast, The AHA show we use to have here on the west coast has been watered down to it barely being a show anymore, and this year was cancelled due to low registration: a moment of silence =(
-
4 tires replaced on mt trailer and a hail storm later, we made it.
Thanks,
Coop
-
Way to go, Coop!
Sorry to hear about having to replace the tires but I hope you didn't have any other damage because of that. Sometimes just the age of those tires will do you in.
See you on Saturday.
RT
-
Those tires were from last fall, so yeah, pretty pissed about that. I'm glad I've got fresh ones now tho. At Wal-Mart in Carlisle now getting my spares replaced.
-
Coop,
Next time, here is something to think about. When I got my first real store bought racecar hauler, I was more proud of the eight ply actual trailer tires. No more 'Maypop Brand" like I had been using. About 10,000 miles in, one of them separated like trailer tires do. They will separate before they ever wear out because of the sharp radius that two axles that close together makes them drag across. I figured I had nothing to loose so I took it to Discount Tire to see about a warranty on the Goodyear tire. They told me that it had 75% tread left and they would replace it for $50. Then they asked me if I wanted the extended warranty. Before I could answer, they volunteered that if I took it, they would not know which trailer tire was replaced and it would cover all of them. Past experience told me that the other three were not far behind so I took it. Then in the next few thousand miles, when the other three did separate, that $25 warranty bought me the other three trailer tires.
-
Well I got no LUCK this year...Sorry guys, NOT going to be able to make it...... Lets say I am not happy..... Hope you all have a big turnout please post pictures. BIG apologies..... I will try again next year.... ::LAMBO
-
Looking for 88.5
Steve and i are here so far. Pretty good turn out for Friday looks like.
I'll reply later one the tire thing, pretty busy with questions here.
::rocker ::headbang
Thanks,
Coop
-
Thanks 67MX, I use Discount tire all the time too. I'll have to check it out. I think if I discover that I had that coverage on the ones that just popped, I may be able to get another set. But those would be cheap tires still I'm afraid because of the ones I had bought, if they replaced those, they may be crap ones too. I did just get some Goodyear Marathons, dunno what ply they are, I'll have to look them up tomorrow when I'm back out there.
88.5 showed up after the crowd had died down. We had a good dinner and better company with some great stories, I know there will be more tomorrow. Look forward to seeing a good turn out tomorrow. You guys take care I'll post up more pics tomorrow throughout the day. May a link to a short video of the fumes car running. I'll take a stab at reprogramming the computer tomorrow to make it stop dumping so much fuel. It's too rich right now and only wants to run at about 3k RPMs. A good problem to have. :LL:
Thanks,
Coop

Saturday, good turn out.

Just got home from the awesome show turnout of Lambos at Carlisle. SEVEN!! ::bounce ::rocker ::headbang :drool ::LAMBO ::salute ::thumbup That's what I said SEVEN. Here they are as they were in the line-up. Adrian Burton's 2001 Diablo (still under construction) with a Mercedes V-12 engine, Bob Shaef's beautiful red Diablo, RT's beautifully finished Diablo VT with mirror finish, Jim Gehres' always gorgeous blue/purple Diablo, Coop's Diablo (still under construction) which I have named the "Vaponator" or "Diablo X-V", Todd Shepherd's '88 Countach from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, and from Nashville, Tenn. was Steve Zeafla's awesome Arancio Atlas Diablo. Enjoy 01

01,
I have not been to Carlisle in several years, it was not me, but I will give you the update. We sent the first design files to the Peterbuilt people today for body plugs and molds. There is more to send and the first complete bodies are still a few months out. Congratulations on the show, with seven cars in attendance, I am willing to make it eight next year. How did it go with the television show filming there?
-
WAY TO GO Steve and Marilyn!
Your Diablo roadster was awesome and deserved the award.
So glad that a Diablo was recognized by Carlisle for an award.
We all hope to see you next year. We could have even more Lambos show up.

Hey Coop, I saw the video, Wow you got a lot going on in there to get that thing started. Had I known you had a LT1, I would have sent you to this guy, http://lt1350.com/ (http://lt1350.com/) They reprogram the stock ECU to your liking, remove the VATS (vehicle antitheft system) and modify the harness to only needing 4 main wires to start the engine up. for like around $375 bucks and you would have been done!

Yeah man. Appreciate that. I already have the minimum wires needed to fire the ECU that came with that motor. It is providing spark and I'm listening to what it says it want's to do for fuel, I'm just doing something a little different from what it says. ;)
I now need to find the leads that turn on the fans and get that setup powered so I can turn the fans on when needed.
I've been running this motor on fumes since 2013 and the new still hasn't worn off on that one yet. It is just so cool every time it runs. Ya know? Love it. And now with this new exposure, I'm hoping there will be plenty more following along and saying screw it and doing it themselves all over the place. THAT would be cool. I think it would be history making. The Internet should be the vehicle that powers that kind of info sharing and allowing us to move ourselves forward instead of staying stuck in this same old BS we've always been in.
Thanks,
Coop

For those who could not attend the show, Todd Shepherd (88.5countach) was nice enough to make a video of my car and interview me. He really does beautiful work. He was also kind enough to allow me to share what he has done so far. He is going to put together a more complete video of the show. That should really be something!
I hope he shares a lot about his Countach too. It is beautiful. There is something visceral about the Countach that just excites you.

I asked 99Feeablo about the "Drive thru judging". He responded that there was a cost of $30 to be judged. I went back to the Carlisle page and this is what they said about the field judging:
If you are a winner, you can see in person as the winner's list will be posted at Guest Services by 10 a.m. on Sunday as well as online at the same time.
Also, if you are not onsite to receive your award, you may either pick it up during regular business hours at the fairgrounds or we will ship awards for $15 each. We hope you will join us throughout the weekend, however; to celebrate the vehicles that are honored as winners.
So there is probably something they give as an award and they should call them to see.
RT
-
RT I remember reading that now. Think Steve stayed Sunday and was there at 10am, that's about the time we arrived so not sure if he was at the awards or not?
Thanks guys for the comments on the videos, enjoy doing it and viewing our cars while doing so. I'm just a rookie at this and it enables me to combine a couple hobbies.
I split the video's up, tomorrow night is Blake and I on the trip/arriving and Steve's car. https://youtu.be/3Q1onVudfFI (https://youtu.be/3Q1onVudfFI) (should be up after 4pm)
Then RT next Friday and Coop, Jim, Adrian and Bob the following Friday.
If Jim, Adrian or Bob what their cuts of the video I can share them on gmail or post an unlisted Youtube version of just their cars for them.
Thanks for watch'n....see ya!

It is very cool. I appreciate Todd making this one for me. I went straight to hacking it up into another project that I think you guys will like. Let me know. I'll post up Todd's video he made for me later tonight or tomorrow. I just realized that I hadn't done that already. Was pretty cool. The interview was good but there is only so much of my car to look at (with it not being done yet). So I turned it into this promo looking video, that I then added some technical info at the end and in the description box. Trying to trickle the info out there for others who want to follow it, and maybe copy some of what I have done.

Wow
I have newfound awe and respect for the builders of these beautiful cars. I bought my kit already built and it's pretty from afar but has nothing like the attention to detail in these cars
My hats off to all of you - and RT your car is simply unreal
-
Since I brought my chassis to the Carlisle Show in 2013, I realized that we NEED unfinished Lambos at this show. People just don't realize the work and dedication that goes into our replicas. You cannot imagine the questions asked by a huge number of viewers. So next year let's continue and build our attendance at this event before it disappears.

AGREED Jim
That is why I have brought mine unfinished, besides it makes me get a lot of stuff done so that I can show some progress

Hopefully People can really see that building one of these cars is no joke! and that this is not a car that you can just take a bug chassis and engine and slap a body on it and roll! Our cars are not kit cars from the 70's Nor are they kits at all!

It was many, many years ago that I brought my in-progress Diablo to the Carlisle show. Most people would see a finished car and get stars in their eyes thinking it would be so much fun and easy to build one of these beauties in a few weeks. I figured people needed to see what really goes into a build. Even the first time I brought my car it was constantly "examined" by a lot of people. I thoroughly encourage those in the process of building to show them off! It can only help people realize these are not toys that can be assembled at home with little effort. We builders are a rare group of talented individuals with enormous skill sets and a desire to create. We basically are building street rods that happen to look like a Lamborghini. The dedication to making it a true replica adds to the complexity. ANYONE who completes one of these deserves their spot on the list of 3%-ers.
The online trolls who don't get it and want to only draw a reaction from us by bashing what we do should die a slow death.
I saw one such idiot at 88.5countach youtube channel who insisted on belittling my build by calling me stupid for building what I could buy. He obviously didn't get it or just wanted to raise our ire. We all know why we do this and it is not because we just want to buy Lamborghini. We are driven to make a statement by our accomplishment. And it can be fun.
So guys, be proud of what you do and let people see it in all stages as you build.

I'd like to reinforce what Ron (RT) said. Actually, his tag at the bottom of his posts says it all. You really need to have a desire to BUILD, not just own. If you enjoy creating and building and you take pride and pleasure in accomplishing something few can do, then this might be for you. If you just want to look "cool" and want to do it on the cheap, then look somewhere else.

The shame (if there is one) comes with having to cover (all of the time and effort, blood, sweat, & tears, that we put into a build) with the beautiful top coat of one of the most beautiful cars ever produced. The finished project is a masterpiece that cannot be mirrored by any other "kitcar" period. At present, I am slowed down by "build depression" (the unseen enemy of such a hobby that hinders our completion). Maybe it has something to due to age (73) but when you fall off of a horse....get up and jump into the saddle again. Maybe this will be a good summer for me. We have yet to see one of the many Murcies at the Carlisle Show. The Murcies have been the main Lamboclone topic for the last five years or so. Hope to see some examples next year in Carlisle. Come and get your shot of adrenalin to stay on your "horse".

I received a message from Steve (99feeablo) stating that he did NOT receive his Carlisle award on Sunday as he was NOT told where to be to receive the award. He contacted Carlisle Shows and had to pay $15 to have the award sent to him. So far, he has NOT received anything via mail. I, personally, sent an email to Carlisle prior to the show, asking about the change of location for "our" cars but never received any response from them either. We'll see what happens with Steve and hope that the lines of communication are fixed before next year.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner I'm a bit of a social media butterfly kinda dance around from one to the next when occasions permit. As you know I tend to hone in on the YouTube video stuff since its another hobby of interest to me. As for those "hate comments", its the negative part of YouTube but definitively a part of it. Some are just young, lost or come from a background that just don't understand and there is nothing you can say to change it. I've gotten good at ignoring them and that seems to be the best result as they move on desperate for a reaction or interaction in other areas.
Thanks to those that chime in to defend I do appreciate it, but don't waste to much time on it, not worth the effort.
Hoping to have a visit with Udo up hear, he build the red countach in the "Best replicas in Toronto" video I did. Talented guy and I'm interested in his story.

I found some pics at Carlisle's website which show only TWO of the seven cars that we had there at the 2017 show. (Sorry Adrian, Bob, RT, & Jimbo) Typical of the poor coverage by Carlisle of the expertise of our hobby. I don't appreciate repetitive pics of cars on an angle or zoomed views. Also found my build in the 2016 show (web address below). Absent were pictures of Jimbo's blue Diablo and Adrian's Diablo.

Thank you sir! Looking forward to showing up next year, I won’t bother being judged tho, I never even got anything like I was supposed to, I even called numerous times and they never did anything about my supposed award... ha. Anyhow it was fun showing the car, hope all is well with you.
