Ok this is my Lamborghini Murcielago GT1 World Series Replica kit car its has taken nearly 2 years to build and is on course to be finished for the summer 2012
The kit was a splash replica of Extreme i have been told
Now i know there will be a few people on here that wont like it but it my kit car and i like it that all im saying
I will accept some neagative comments but no nasty one please i have put this up for people to ask me questions and to help other builders on this site and my car will be different as far as i know its the only replica GT1 car.
Enjoy

Great to see you posting here. Followed your build diary on extreme. This is a great build and a lot of hard work. When do you anticipate completion based on your current state of progress? Keep up the great work!

Great work! Keep it up! Primer does this car no justice!
-
Super nice my friend! What are your plans for the paint? Are you also going to do a GT type paint scheme on it? That would be sweet ::beers

Are you going to get a wing for your car Chris? This is something I’ve been wanting for mine but haven’t found any place that sells them, except for eBay and they are all super expensive. Let me know if you know of one.

Hey now.. you can't rush perfection. :P I'm actually a little behind as I wait for my buddies shop to open up a spot to start the rear frame, engine and transmission swap. There isn't a whole lot I can do until that stuff is done since it's the last 3/4 section of the car. Everything is going to change back there (bat wings, engine cover brackets and hinges etc) so I'm just sitting around right now and following the threads here. :-[
This is driving me crazy.. I finally have great weather but can't do anything on my build.
Thanks for trying to motivate me. ::thumbup

Yeah same here my build is at work and I don't want to be there after work hours, I need my own garage :'(
-
looks good. BTW, what's underneath? Donor, custom chassis? Engine? etc. Love that steering wheel. ::rocker
-
Hey Peggyontherunireland, this is just an incredible build. Love your attention to detail and those carbon fiber parts. I think the paint job on the original looks great and would be easiest to recreate in a vinyl wrap. Thanks for posting here.....dave
-
Cheers guys The donor car was a toyota Mr2 turbo its been stretched
professionally by a crowd in the UK. Maybe next year i will put a Camry V6 into her as its not a hard job to do.
The unit that i rent where my Lambo is i pay around $140 a month ::headbang

Wondering how the front wheel well got like that :o
Is that how the fender line around the wheel opening is going to be on the rear? I know it's not finished but I figured you sanded that shape for a reason. Trying to compare to the race car pics but not seeing it.
-
@ Tallon - The front wheel well is all hand made the car was stretched but the fit was too big so some alteration had to be made and this was the only route as i live in Ireland its not exactly easy to get any parts or work done its like living in the stone age ::tongue
As for the GT1 my car inist the exact copy mine it very different im just using the GT1 as a guide and adding in my own touch
Cheers
Sean
-
Oh ok so the stretch must have been made for a different kit, I was expecting it to be under-stretched tho :S

From what car is the windshield that you have?
-
@ Pedro - its from a 2001 Nissan Maxima :)
-
@ Pedro - its from a 2001 Nissan Maxima :)
All right, so if you have an Extreme body that accepts the original windshield what modifications did you have to make to either the body or the windshield to make it fit?
The reason I am interested is because I also have a kit that accepts the original windshield and as you know they are very expensive so me and others are trying to find an alternative. Any help with this will be much appreciated. Thanks my friend!
-
Same knowledge needed! ::scratch
-
Ok guys i got the windscreen for very cheap out of a scrap yard as the Lambo OEM window cost too much.
There is about 2-3 weeks work getting the window to fit but it can fit.
I sent my windscreen to my local glass cutter he cut 20mm off each side free hand (This guy has skill) and the window is perfect.
As my kit isint an extreme i was told a copy of extreme so the glass was an issue so this has worked for me alot of hours filling and sanding the only part you will have to re-make is a front A pillars whicj is straight forward to do.
Hope this help am here to help so ask as much questions as possible.

-
@ Pedro - Cheers mate its coming along great now as for the summer here we are having the worst summer here it has been raining here for a few months now so may not this summer but a few dry days that might get hopefully fingers crossed.
Had 50 odd led's left over from the rear lights as you could only purchase them in bunches of 50's so i am putting them into the roof

looks kewel from the inside, how are you going to cover all the wiring up? Kinda looks like a acupuncturist got a hold of you ::LAMBO2
Dustin
-
@ usmc_butler - ha ha i have a good few layers of fiberglass to re-skin the roof so there will be no wires shown ::headbang
-
Why on earth would you do that?
Why not make a panel and mount it on the inside under the roof?
How is the reskin going to look? A bit goofy I think.
Is there a point to it?
Sorry, I give it 4 thumbs down. A+ for effort though.

@ onewickedsvt -

I think this about say's it all. ::thumbup
It might look a little different to us now, but I'm sure it will turn out looking awesome when it's done.
It only has to make the builder happy and I appreciate you sharing your pictures and ideas here.

-
@ No Bull - Cheers Chris yip some people like my build and some don't thats life for ya :) but i didn't want (and no offence to any other builder out there) the same lambo exact look replica as the market is flood with the same cars and style, thats why i went the race car look theme. And i basically had to re-make the whole kit due the poor quality its taken longer but i have gained alot of knowledge doing my build this way. Cheers for having me here any question fire away i will help anybody that needs help thats what this forum is for

Picked the roof scoop up today
(http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/7300/roofsc001.jpg)
The LED's all fiberglassed down
(http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/1476/roofsc002.jpg)
Second layer of fiberglass this layer will pin down the roof scoop
(http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/44/roofsc003.jpg)
Loads of bumps looks like a gold course :-) these will be sorted
(http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/5789/roofsc004.jpg)
I used filler in the low spots to level the area out then sand this back then re-fiberglass the whole roof
(http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/3089/roofsc007.jpg)
-
Hey I see it coming together now that will make for one solid roof! ::beers
Everyone has different opinions of how things should be done, I have never seen this approach but it will turn out great! Only thing I would worry about is if a LED went out ::counfused .... I SOOOOOO wish you were in the US so I could send you parts to have the CF coating done, it looks so good! Is it expensive?

what is the Diameter , make me one an i will do the other 3 how much
-
@ italianknightrider - i think the diameter is 400mm i double check tomorrow for you. I would need a bolt pattern as the alloys that i am using on my Labo are off a corvete the rear is 5 stud and the front is 4 stud. If you can get me the correct stud pattern and e-mail it to me i can make you one or do you just want one th same as i have ??
-
5 stud corvette bolt pattern ...only make 1
-
Rather than grinding each hole after drilling, try touching a larger drill bit to the metal to clean up the hole. I leaves a nice chamfer and no scratches.
-
Ok so what about the caliper now?
I don't think personally it looks too good.
-
@ italianknightrider - Ok i will sent pm to you on price
@ jdinner - cheers for that doesnt really make a differance as i buffer the entire disk and this removes and loose metal
@ onewickedsvt - some like it some dont that life it would be boring on here if we all like the same thing :-) the caliper will be put on dont worry its on the way
-
Did you get a replica Lamborghini caliper? It's going to look pretty sweet once they are all put together ::thumbup

Looks good, but are you seriously going to leave rebar in the door?
It isn't going to do a darn thing in an accident.
I would put a straight bar instead.
Other than that, looking good!
-
On the rebar note. I'm not sure what you welded it together with but.....
I consider myself a pretty good welder after 35 years of welding and rebar can/should not be welded.
I once made a ladder for a customer with their supplied rebar and the metal just cracked next to the weld. Rebar is the garbage steel meant to be buried in concrete and forgotten about.
-
Cool. I was trying to find pictures of the maxima windshield so I could compare it to oem. It looks good.
I made atv ramps years ago using rebar for the rungs. No problems here... Burnt the weld in hot with my Esab... It didn't mind welding rebar at all 8)
-
Yea run into that rebar at 15 mph.
-
wow, how in hell did i miss this thread! awesome job man!!!!
-
Yea run into that rebar at 15 mph.
Did you happen to notice he's running a roll cage with side bars? And what exactly is "straight bar"??
-
Inner door protection.
I noticed the roll bar, but I still wouldn't leave rebar in my door for obvious safety reasons.
-
Wouldn't the rebar break like spears, and impale the passenger if the door gets hit ?
-
@ Tusabes - No as the welds are 100% you can die in any car :'( at least if i die in my Lambo i will have died a happy man ::headbang ::headbang ::headbang ::headbang ::headbang ::rocker ::rocker ::rocker ::bounce ::bounce ::angel ::angel ::angel ::angel ::sun ::sun

There is always a risk of receiving feedback (positive and sometimes not so positive) when you share pictures and information about your build online. Everyone should keep in mind that many builders are limited by materials, time, money, tools or fabrication expertise in the many different areas required to build one of these cars (welding, machining, painting, etc). I think one of the coolest aspects of this hobby is watching how others overcome these challenges while growing their personal skills.
Many of you have voiced your concern about using the rebar as a structural support inside the door and it's now up to the builder to take your advice under advisement and change this or leave it as is and accept any risk that might come with this design. This is a possible safety item that I think was worth calling out because of your concern for him and his passengers. I personally appreciate this and I hope it's accepted by the builder as the same. We are not the "safety police", but I think we all have a responsibility to our passengers and any future owners to incorporate adequate safety into our builds whenever practically possible.
I think it's worth noting that the roll cage is modeled after a race version of the Murci and it may or may not provide additional safety protection rather than just be there for looks.
Your points have been made (thank you) and the builder is aware of your concerns. Lets please move on so he continues to post pictures and information about his build.
Thanks,
Chris

fantastic. how tough was it to get the door lines to line up with the rest of the body with the door gapped like that. Mine is similar and I'm dreading the process later. Thanks. Your car is coming along great, keep it up. Later.
-
@ notnilc20 - Its a hard job getting the doors to line up the door handle mechanism took me 15 hours to get it to work there was a gap but not that big so i just skimmed the panel and sand it back to get the right line a bit of work but will look right in the end.
I was putting it off as well but it has to be done so i just got stuck into it

Looks good peggyontherun,
quick question. Looks like your tires would rub the fenders on bumps and turns? Do you plan on doing some more trimming on the wheel wells or use different wheels/tires? Good progress though.
-
@ Notnilc20 - the car is on adjustable suspension i have the suspension set all the way down for security reasons as the car cannot be moved if anybody tried to rob it so the whole car has to be raised up 2-3 inches and the wheels don't rub.
-
I think you are doing a stunning job mate. One thing though. On the rear wheel arch, I see that there is a large flat area behind the wheel that does not look right to me but that is easy to smooth out. Or is that the way that the GT1 looks like? Does not look bad but just thinking of the normal Murcie.
Sorry, one more thing. You door glass? What is that from and what is the length like? I have to start thinking of that for my project.
Cheers
-
@ Jackal - Hi mate my car was built by hand wheel arch and all so it hand made wheel arches still need a bit of work the door glass is lexan and can be got from Mark Clapp on here his work is very good.

Please explain what you mean here?
"Done a compression on one cylinder 70% at full rev on another cylinder 50% so it out with the engine"
-
It's great to see some updates on the GT1 and thank you for taking the time to post them today.
You and your daughter stay strong and you'll conquer her illness together.
I think it's awesome that you have your garage to escape too when it's time to take your mind off everything and who knew that building a Lambo could be "Chicken Soup for the Soul"? ::sun
Take care,
Chris

I done a compression test on the engine one cylinder was putting out 70psi middle was 50psi next one 50psi and fourth cylinder was 75psi they head was no holding compression should be around 170-180 so head is gone out with the engine for a re-build

Compression tests must be done at cranking RPM. A running engine will fluctuate all over the place and give very low readings.
I will not be surprised if find nothing wrong with that motor. The water/milky oil is caused from starting and stopping the engine without letting it warm up completely. Once it runs at for a while at operating temperature all that water burns off. It is normal.

I like this build a lot because it is the only one of its kind (: and it keeps progressing. On the other hand it is very complicated to address multiple angels of the project all at once lol what a mess you make then you clean then you make a bigger mess then you clean up even nicer and it goes on and on but the picture is getting clear that it will be awsome

Curious if this has been done before on these cars or not, to get a better idea of how it's going to look, or is it strictly your own thing?
I'm picturing the wheels going out to the edge of the now extended wheel openings
-
I think this is the look he's trying to achieve:

looks nice, but why the fake screws on the fender flares when its molded in place?
-
@ apsara - it break up the white and the wide arches there, there for show purposes
-
@ Tallon - this car is hand made not something you can buy off the shelf every part of this lambo is hand built i know its not going to be 100% as its a replica ::tongue ::tongue ::tongue
-
I think it looks pretty cool. Yes there are couple things I would've done different but it doesn't matter, it's not my car. ::thumbup

Looking good!!
Show us a video when you can. Something a little longer then Rob's last one....

How did you do your taillights?
Would you be willing to share your design on these?
I have the regular murcie ones and I would rather make the LP640 look ones
Thanks!

@ pkovgolf - yip will help you no problem mate
Here is how i made my rear light there easy to make
Make your template out of cardboard as you will only get one chance doing it
I made mine out of steel.
I drill all these holes as im using LED's as you will see
The top row is the indicator/turn signal
The bottom row is reverse light
The out hole is the brake light and the inner hole is the day time running light
(http://imageshack.us/a/img209/943/6b2n.jpg)
The star lights are off ebay from Japan if i can remember and so are all of the led's
(http://imageshack.us/a/img21/5182/60tu.jpg)
The indicator wired up
(http://imageshack.us/a/img826/1921/i8hy.jpg)
As you can see the reverse light on the bottom and the day time running light
(http://imageshack.us/a/img14/6653/pzfe.jpg)
The rear lens was from America made by Mark Clapp i think he is on here or you will be able to get him on Madmechanics he is a top bloke
(http://imageshack.us/a/img689/9118/1ync.jpg)
The heardest part is wiring all the leds up but worth it in the end
Hope this helps in your build
