Title: My lambo was stolen tuesdsay!! A guy came to test drive it and took off! 5000$
Post by: robreezy on October 17, 2013, 05:03:29 PM
Stolen Tuesday morning. The guy called from a prepaid phone, said he was flying in, brought a cab to my house. He had this planned, he was dressed nice and well spoken. He was black about 5'7 average build. I'm offering a 5000$ reward to info leading to finding my car. He asked if he could take it around the block, and took off. I immediately called the police and have a detective on the case. They pulled video surveillance from his pickup location, so we may be onto something. This whole thing has made me sick, I have spent the last year of my life Building this car with any extra money I had to spare. I just hope they catch the guy or people involved. Offering 5,000$ Reward

PLEASE KEEP RUDE COMMENTS TO YOURSELF. I FEEL BAD ENOUGH WITHOUT THE COMMENTS. JUST TRYING TO FIND MY CAR THANKS

Here's a pic, could easily be painted, has 3800sc engine and a lot of mods. Easy to pick out, if you look at body you can tell many differences. I don't want to point them out, considering this guy didn't know much. PLEASE KEEP RUDE COMMENTS TO YOURSELF. I FEEL BAD ENOUGH WITHOUT THE COMMENTS. JUST TRYING TO FIND MY CAR THANKS

Im really sorry that happened! Completly sucks!!! Did you have any contact with the guy via the internet?

Nothing against you or your car, but what makes me wonder is why he stole a replica? I mean it would seem to make more sense (to a scum sucking theif) to steal a real Lambo or high end car...

No man everything was done through text messages. I don't understand why. He went through a lot of trouble to pull this off & that's why I didn't think twice letting him take it right around my block. It was the very last thing I expected. I put the whole last year of my life into that car just to have it taken in a matter of minutes. Makes me sick. Thanks for your concern. I just hope I can get the word out to the community bc eventually something will turn up.

The value in replicas and / or older cars is the parts.  As someone else had mentioned, I would keep an eye on EBay and Craigslist for any unique parts on your car that might identify it as yours.  There is also a chance that the car was stolen for it's parts to finish another car in the general area.

Are there any business's in the area that might have had security cameras on and might have caught them on video?  I'm guessing that they would've had to had a trailer waiting somewhere and drove the car to the trailer and hauled it away from there.  There could be video of the truck pulling the trailer out there on someone's security system but you need to start asking quickly since most of this video is now digital and it's overwrote in 30 days or less.

Yea that is a good point. Thought the same thing right away, truck nearby with enclosed trailer. I know the detectives are checking place of pickup from the cab ride. But yea I'm sure the truck would have been following the cab or nearby. I'm trying not to give too much info away in case they are reading these messages. I'm pretty confident we have a video of the guy that came to my house.

Well I hope it never happens to you, sorry for turning down your offer. Your right I deserve to be robbed of everything I have ever worked hard for!? Just please keep rude comments to yourself, you have no idea what im going through bc of this. Not only did this guy run off with part of my life but also every key to everything I own. 2 car keys, a bike key, house key, & office key. Not to mention I had to rent a car bc my other cars have special keys. This has been a horrible experience, and i'd appreciate if people with negative comments would just skip this post. Thanks

I'll be checking out the Memphis area for you and i wouldn't need to take the $5000 reward. Knowing this A-hole got bagged would be reward enough for me. Good luck and lets all pull together to help this man in need.

This should a lesson to all   When your car is done spend the few hundred extra on colission and thef / vandal coverge.
I"ve seen it many  times. The extra few are far less then reward for recovery.

That's what I've been thinking. It sounds like this guy was coming for the car he!! or high water and probably letting you come with him on the test drive could have gotten you hurt or worse.
Also it sounds like he had all the words ready to put you at ease and smooth any problems over. Like he's done this before and is working another scam right now.

in my 25 years of KITCAR  build and interested in I've seen few got stolen and recovered couple  years later out of nowhere . since VIN # can be change easy then any OEM car, where VIN # is on every panel chassis etc.
#1 car did not look right compared to others
#2  It did not performed as regular car never mind as clone
#3 run out casholas could not finish as wanted or personal money isues.
now I'm not saying this is the case, most of these stolen cars are stored in storage, chopped down or modified to send over the pond  and insurance claimed.

He didn't seem to have an accent. The detective on the case has spoken with the driver and cab company. There's only a few options this guy has, one would be to try changing the vin, or scrap it. But every part on that car is easily noticeable. The side rocker panels are flat, it was an mr2 with 3800sc (very rare) no windows, no glass in rear views, no back window, no inner door panels, flat white paint, and many more. But if everybody can keep their eyes open on parts, 3800 engine parts, etc would be greatly appreciated. I will gladly hand over 5000$ cash to anybody that helps me find my car! Thanks a lot guys!!

Just trying to find my car, what's done is done period. +1 (318) 507-0893 is the number he used to call me. I didn't get a background check before he stole my car. Yea I wish I had handled the situation differently. Do you honestly think I don't ask myself this question every minute of my life? Here is a question, where did the cab driver pick him up at? More than likely he didn't fly in from anywhere. He probably had a truck parked somewhere near where he was picked up. Probably not far from where he test drove it. You don't want to drive a car like that too far because people will see you. I'd say he lives within a 100 miles of you. The body has to turn up ay some point, he probably didn't understand it was all one piece. Just my take on it. Did you put a ad in the local paper?

Yes I did. He was picked up from a hotel right off the highway. The detective has tried all avenues at the hotel. He said he flew in from Louisana and said his name was Cory. I have had tons of leads and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before somebody speaks out for the reward money. I just don't see him being able to do much with this car. He's an idiot for taking this car in the first place. A smart thief would have targeted a more common car. He picked the worst car possible to steal.

the car is in the storage, no one will see it for couple of years, then quick repaint and some one who knows all about will drive it again. I've seen it before ( twice ) sad is all the work and sentimental value.

I don't care if you get mad at me or the whole forum, you have $5k for reward but have no $1K  for insurance. I don't get it. good luck .I'm checking our Auto trader here in Canada.

Don't give this guy any ideas, I would appreciate people sticking to the topic. Or just pm me. I don't see why some of you guys have to be so rude. This is the one place I figured people would completely understand.
It's sad to think some there's people out there who just thrive on negativity. I feel bad for you guys. I'm not trying to be rude, when I first posted this thread your the same guy who posted Calling me an idiot and this and that then immediately deleted your posts. There's no need for them, your just showing your character and not making yourself look any better.

I think we all got the point the first time you posted basically the same exact thing, not quite sure what you are trying to do either, no one cares about someone's opinion on another person or if he didn't want to sell you something, the guy never took anything from you. He had a very special item taken from him and you are trying to turn people against him. Not right.

Thank you! I just want to find my car period. Sorry I rejected your offer get over it. Like the guy below me said you just repeated yourself and tried to clean it up a bit from your last post. Saying it was my KARMA bc I turned down your offer. What is it exactly you are trying to accomplish? Make me look bad to make yourself look better? Turn people against me bc I tired down your offer? And in fact for your knowledge, my neighbors are all my friends who ride motorcycles and build fast cars, doing the same exact thing. Just move on, I don't people "busting my chops" after a part of my life just got taken from me. Reverse the situation put yourself in my shoes! This wasn't just a car, this was something my father and I July together, he passed away right after, then some thief just comes and takes it! I feel bad enough without people like you rubbing my face in it. All you guys should start a new thread where you can bash people in peace.

Wow, this thread has really got off topic. The original poster is not on trial. He is asking for help. Whether he is arrogant or a nice guy himself is immaterial.

lamorand, if you feel you were wronged, why not be the bigger man and offer help or stay out of it. Saying "serves you right" does not make you look very good. Also, in case you don't realize, it is rude to hijack someone's thread and defame them.

Can't we all just get along?

You guys know how much work and time it takes to build these, and how they are part of your lifestyle. We are all here doing the same exact thing. Instead of discussing our differences we should be discussing what it is we are all doing here in the first place, our passion for cars. Again big thanks to all you guys helping me, I've seen posts on forums of you guys sharing, and it's all very much appreciated. This is what it is gonna take to bring my car home.

Dont be so fast to point fingers, theres a moral to this story ok. This is a forum that we should be allowed to speak about our experiences so that others can learn from it right?. Are we not allowed to voice our stories and experiences here? Does that rule only apply to people who are well known and established here?. . i really do hope he finds his car and i actually find myself subconciously looking for it as i scroll daily through ebay and other lambo replica sites. We all share this forum and anytime we see something or someone that isnt right we should all say something about it in hopes others can learn from it.  I wish everyone well, happy building and be kind to others. Have a nice day.  ::wave

Just a little helpful advice if you want it..the guy who posted about your car being close by you is 100% correct. Im sure your car is somewhere closer than you think. i will bet $100 that its in a storage facility right now. Try looking in a neighborhood that you think that guy might associate with and for sure fax a picture of the car to  every single storage facility within a 100 mile radius. im sure the people who run the offices of the storage facility would notice that car being loaded or unloaded. Its somewhere near you, drive through "the hood" to see if its parked anywhere and hand out flyers with reward of cash money. the cars features are too difficult and expensive to exchange or replace such as wheels, engine, lights , grilles etc so its likely that the car will remain the same look only different paint color and a new stereo maybe. lamborand got the right idea. Give flyers to every storage place within a 100 miles. They will know if a car like that came through. It's not sitting on some street some where but it is much closer than you think. I hope you find it.

That looks like the car !! The flat side scoops and all

Get the cops to get in contact with eBay - they will have to pretend to win this auction and pay the guy - I'm sure he will say shipping only , no in person pickups

They can track his IP address

Is it possible to easily take off the body and put it on a dodge chassis ?

::wave That car has the same G24 body but the engine is in the front and looks like its original to the chassis. also the engine from the stolen car was a supercharged 3800 series motor in the back. Good try though. The thief knows that he cant post it on EBAY hes smart enough to know everyone will be looking there, and i dont think he wants to sell it. i think he wants to keep it and combine it with another replica and drive it or just paint it and drive it. i think hes a petty thief with enough balls to take the car and thats all. Remember he stole a replica car and these cars arent meant to be driven long distances or on freeways. The guy drove it to a buddies house, then together they put it in a buddy's garage till the smoke clears then they going move it to a storage facility and lock it up till summer then he wont resist the urge to drive it around after putting a paint job on it. thats when he will get caught. post wanted posters in "the hood" and you may get lucky enough to find a nice kid who will squeal on him for cash. Remember money talks!

so you want everyone with the same kit to be investigated? I guess he'll be happy you bought their car though...
I doubt they stripped the paint off down to the gelcoat and downgraded everything

If he was that prepared to steal the car, riding along may have turned out much worse once he got you away from the house.  A determined thief is a determined thief and you never know what his desperation / motivation level is or what they may be prepared to risk (including your life).

Cars can be replaced but you only get so many days above sod and it's simply not worth risking those days on something you're probably not going to be able to stop anyhow.  My car will have a GPS Nano hidden in it which I'll justify the annual subscription costs by not paying the premiums on full coverage insurance since theft would be my primary concern for anything over liability.  I use these for high dollar asset tracking at work and I'm very happy with how well they perform and how accurate they are.

Post wasn't directed to jay at all, any info helps.

I'm just saying if I had a g24 I wouldn't expect the police to be on me unless I at least had the car painted with a lot of the same parts. I think some people just think it's a rare body kit. Maybe around town but not across the country.

This is spot on. Thanks for the tip on the GPS Nano. I will definitely consider that.

That being said, taking the driver's license isn't fool proof but it may have helped. We have to be as careful as we can.

I just got a msg from Vito.
He said the same car that is pictured was on sale there.
Now it does not mean the car is there  in Europe could be scam or we deliver if you buy it .
There is lot of stolen cars shipped to over seas specially to Africa.
Here in Toronto they just bust a thief ring with multi million $$ stock of cars ready to ship.

Sorry guys I just now saw these posts. The car looks similar, but definitely not mine, very close. A few things to add, where the bat wings normally go mine were completely filled in, also there were no tops on the doors, had the removable top, and no windows. But I do appreciate all the Leads and advise! I'm for sure going to send fliers to every storage facility, great idea! Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Now this thread is getting somewhere :)

Wow man that sucks, really sorry to hear that. I feel your pain as I'm sure you mine. It's a huge blow to take and accept. I believe in karma and wether or not this guy is caught, his karma will catch up. To have to steal someone's property, you have to be living in your own hell. I'm sure their lives are miserable, and at the end of the day, I still go home smiling. Highly doubt it's the same for him.

I find that Tallon posts what I'm already thinking. I'd guess that's the case with many other people. It doesn't matter if the guy put the car on a truck or took to Mcdonalds for a hamburger, fact is the car is still gone. Ideas like fliers are great. Along with everyone watching eBay and your local Craigslist. Contemplating the ideas and plans of the thief does nothing but clutter up the thread.

Personally i dont think the thief ditched the car at least not yet because he likes the car, he cant drive it now because he knows everyones looking for it and also cause its freezing outside and the car has no windows. So more than likely its in a buddy's garage somewhere just waiting for summer to come and hoping for the "heat" over the stolen car to be minimal or gone. At that time he may try to paint it and drive it to impress his friends then maybe ditch the car on an old country road. I think the car will show up abandoned this summer.

so the car was not complete ? why would anybody want that? hmm, it's in re mod stage maybe and finish later in months.  well I'm sure the local police force knows all the tricks about auto theft.

   National Auto Theft Statistics

There were an estimated 721,053 motor vehicle thefts nationwide in 2012. The estimated number of motor vehicle thefts increased 0.6% in 2012 when compared with the 2011 estimates, but declined 24.8% when compared to the 2008 estimates, and 42.8% when compared to the 2003 estimates, according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports. Of all motor vehicles stolen, 73.9% were automobiles.  Auto Theft Prevention Tips

In 2012 only 11.9 percent of thefts were cleared, either by arrests or by exceptional means, compared with 20.4 percent for arson and 19.0 percent for all property crimes. (Insurance Information Institute).

According to the FBI, a motor vehicle is stolen in the United States every 44 seconds.

Auto theft is covered by the optional "comprehensive" coverage on your auto policy. The average comprehensive insurance premium in the U.S. rose slightly (0.51 percent) from $132.38 in 2009 to $133.06 in 2010 (the most recent data available), according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

A survey of American drivers conducted in April 2007 on behalf of the National Insurance Crime Bureau and LoJack, a manufacturer of an electronic vehicle tracking and recovery system, found:
• 79% always lock their vehicles.
• 93% never leave spare keys in their vehicle.

However, the survey also found:
• One-third admit they have left their car while it was running, which makes the vehicle an easy target for theft.
• 47% don’t always park in a well-lit area.
• 40% don’t hide their valuables. In fact, nearly half leave mail in their vehicle, a quarter have left a purse or wallet, and almost a third have left bank statements, all of which can put them at risk for identity theft.

Although 75% of respondents know that there are costs associated with vehicle theft in addition to paying the insurance deductible and the cost of replacing the vehicle that are not covered by insurance, virtually none knew that there are additional costs such as insurance premium increases, the cost of time spent dealing with police, vehicle rental costs, and the cost of time off from work. The survey was conducted by Opinion Research Corporation.

Does It Matter Where I Live?

Living in urban and higher crime areas has an impact on your risk of being a victim of auto theft. Port and border cities continue to be boomtowns for the auto theft business.  Of the top 25 metro areas in the nation for vehicle theft, nearly half are ports or communities with easy access to borders (*National Insurance Crime Bureau, or NICB). The NICB study compares the auto theft rates per 100,000 population in 380 metro areas.

Lamborghinimurci was the member who posted the original lead for the eventual recovery of your car. Any rewards that you are following thru with should rightfully go to him and it's between you guys to work this out.

Please share the whole story of the recovery piece if you are able to legally tell it.

This was the key bit of information that led to the recovery of the car.  As stated before, all information containing the suspected persons picture and information were removed in case he was innocent but also avoid tipping him off if he or anyone that knew was a member on this site.

Its an ongoing investigation. I'm sure hes reading these, and I have to be careful what info I release. The detective in fort worth told me the car was pretty beat up. Not sure what to expect, but worse case is still better than not having it at all. There's a hold on the car for the pending investigation. I promise guys as soon as I have my car and detective gives me the Okay ill lay out the whole story. But just dont make the same mistake I did. These guys are taking bigger risks and I learned a huge lesson. Ive been buying and selling bikes and cars for years, and have a pretty good sense when it comes to people. I let my guard down one time and got taken for a fool. I was naive to think it would never happen to me. Im just glad this mess is finally almost over. Again guys I cant say thank you enough!

Once it's deleted, it's basically gone.  I pulled my information from the email notifications that I receive on discussions that I'm following or have posted on myself.  Since those are emails, they still have the text of the post even though the posts themselves no longer exist on the site.  The main reason it was deleted in the first place was to avoid tipping off any associated with the theft and give law enforcement enough time to follow up on the information.

Tusabes why would you post something like this?  I've not seen anything posted by Robreezy indicating that he's not going to pay a reward.  Let's let these guys work out any rewards amongst themselves and give them a chance to talk about it.

Chris

I can tell he doesnt plan to honor his $5000 reward Because he just said he will give lamborghinimurci "something" , instead of the $5000 he clearly offered in the OP.

I doubt he has any intention of actually giving $5000. He Will make up some excuse about how the car is all beat up and he can only afford $200 or some other excuse . Just wait and see.

Im so glad you found it!!!! Big "THANKS" to the member who got the ball rolling to get the car found. Im sure what ever the reward is/was something will be worked out.

I know money can be tight this time of year (xmas season) for rewarding the person who lead to finding your car. If you need a little help making a contribution to the person please PM me. If it had been me who helped in finding it I wouldnt be asking of nothing....

If you remember from the deleted posts , I was helping you by telling you about the exif data in the storage pics that would pinpoint the GPS coordinates of the storage lot .

Police do not charge crime victims storage and impound fees in many states, you should ask the officer about that to get a waiver . Hope that helps you out

Here is the law in Fort Worth
http://www.fortworthtexas.gov/council_packet/render_file.asp?filename=Agenda_Publishable%5CSubItem%5C9241%5CIR%209566%20-%20Attached.pdf (http://www.fortworthtexas.gov/council_packet/render_file.asp?filename=Agenda_Publishable%5CSubItem%5C9241%5CIR%209566%20-%20Attached.pdf)

If the police are holding it for evidence or examination , they are required to pay the fees. If they are just holding it because you can't get there quick enough , you have to pay the fees.

The police may not be aware of this law and you'll have to show it to them

They said it was right under 200 minimum. Once the hold comes off I have until midnight to pick it up that night. If not then 50$ is assessed, then 25 a day after. Thanks for that I will give it a try. They are hard to work with, and don't seem to care what the story is.

Just heard about this.  I have mixed emotions.  Super glad to hear that the car was recovered!  I would have done everything in my power to help for zero dollars.  Kind of curious to hear the details.  Maybe you  could write q book or sell the plot to the movies.  I would definitely want to make sure that the person claiming the reward is not connected to the thief.  I'm saying that because claiming a $5000 reward would be a great deal for a thief.  Just some conjecture here,  I don't have a clue!  Anyway congrats on the recovery.

Very glad you can get your car back.

Thanks again to everybody. Sorry been busy dealing with all this and fixing my car. Luckily there wasn't much damage, just a cracked windshield and they actually fixed an issue I had with the alarm lol I still can't release  much info, but the guy is in custody and off the streets! Turns out he was just in prison not long ago, and has been doing this to a lot of people. I'm still in shock I got it back. But thanks to all you guys. Even the ones who were negative towards me. :)

Glad everything ended on a good note. Glad the thief is behind bars again where he belongs. Hopefully he'll be there longer this time to contemplate some of his life decisions. Happy New Year!!

Actually,  what was the end result here?  did someone get a reward? was it all settled offline?
or is it still pending?
I would hate to think after all the effort was put into the search that resulted in finding the vehicle that it just all went away...

Maybe it was all just a big Acid test to see how reactive or pro-active a forum would be in the event that something was stolen... and in fact the end result is collectively all the weak points have been observed thus allowing anyone who is intending on repeating this type of crime will be aware of "what not to do"  and where the first places everyone is going to look....
pretty sure the "next one" wont be found as easily....  just saying... ::police
