Title: lp640 replica caliper build
Post by: madmods on August 17, 2015, 06:37:36 AM
It was 116 degrees today so you all owe me a beer. The project is to convert my boxster calipers to 640 calipers. I did the s-upgrade already with the larger discs and using a 18-20 rim combo so the brakes fill in the front pretty good.  Heres what I have:

Replica 640 caliper plus some brembo caliper covers I will steal the bleed and line fittings from.

Heres what I'm making:

My lp640 is white so I'm going to do blue calipers with white writing. They are going to stick out so I'm going to put a little effort into them.

So here is a lay over. I have to paint my red calipers black so they don't show. I don't like how the oem caliper shows underneath so I'll make them wider.

I taped out the piece I want to cut. Today I'm just using kitty hair, because i'm out of gloves to fiberglass with. Tomorrow I'll glass and dremel most of the excess kitty hair off.

Caliper cut:

I put the caliper back on to see how much I have to space it out to cover the oem completely

Here is the caliper extended, the brown spot is kitty hair. I still have to fill in the sides of the extension.

Next I started building up the sides of the caliper to cover my caliper completely. The lines are going to match at where my caliper is open.

Rear and sides now built up:

So they gone from 2d to 3d. I can see the finish product in my head and i assure you it looks good! Tomorrow I'll clean up the lines, glass and body filler. Add the bleed and tube valves. Then paint and stencil. Might even send one out to get them 3d printed for my other build.

Very nice!  Where did you get the replica covers from?

Got them awhile back from someone who molded them from the real deals. Anybody with a 3d printer is welcome to print them as long as I get some copys. I still have 2 that I haven't touched.
