Title: Chrysler 606 "Used in 300m" , mated to a Buick V6 turbo
Post by: Robert on March 06, 2013, 08:19:17 AM
Has anyone heard of anyone using a Chrysler 606 "Used in 300m" , mated to a Buick V6 turbo. Any shops that can rebuild high performance Chrysler 606/ 42le trans.? Companies that make an adapter kit?

                                          Your help is really appreciated!

Are you talking about the 3.8L from the Grand National?

There are adapters out there to mount a 700r4 to that engine. You may be able to get one of those and modify it to fit the Chrysler trans.

Why would you want to?

All Chrysler Trannys are garbage and will break down easily.
It is ideal for a budget mid engine car. With north south orientation.

Since you brought up the key word "budget",  how much did you want to spend?  There doesn't appear to be any supplier for this trans adapter so CHA CHING $$.  (The crankshaft, flywheel, and adapter plate will require machining or there may be a chance that it can't easily be done)  If you are really talking about a sensible budget, why not go with the 3.8L SC and the matching auto trans mounted transversely?  Jim

I have to agree with this.  I've owned a lot of older Mopars and indeed the 727 of the past were really good transmissions (maybe some of the best in fact).  In 1998 I bought a new LHS and I loved the 3.5L V6 in this car (the same as they used in the Prowler).  My car didn't have more than 35,000 miles on it and the transmission went out and left me stranded one snowy night.  I've heard of many electrical and transmission problems with the newer Chrysler products and this was my personal experience with one.

I have done the adapter for the 42LE to the LS V8 so should not be hard to do one for the 3.8.

We as kit car/ replica builders have to accept that all the factory fwd transmissions available to us for the price range we want to pay for are all weak in one way or another.

i agree about the transmission having it problems .....No.1 using the wrong or cheap transmission fluids will kill it or gum it up ,No.2 use a trans cooler .....an No.3 which most people forget in a 300M it,s under the car covered up by sheet metal in the Fiero the top of the whole transaxle is exposed to the owner if work is needed ,wiring is right there ,they are cheap $250-400 ,very available an they sell a red line clutch kit , an on the prowler forum they say they keep a extra solenoid in the glove box ...... main problem or issue .....its out in the open in the back of a Fiero

I recently did some research on a jeep/chrysler transmission because I was having difficulty finding the correct fluid. I read several discussions where the transmissions failed within days of using the wrong fluid. So to agree, it's very critical to use the correct fluid. Even if it's astronomically expensive from the dealer.  :'(
