Do you know the length? I was thinking of getting something like this, but I need to know the length before I purchase one.  It looks like you can modify it pretty easily.

I had some spare 10mm Red LED's from my tail lights.  Very high intensity.  I used them inside the third light/vent part.   Just wired them up and sent the lead to the brake light line that was OEM to the MR2.  I used a piece of tinted plexi in the front to cover them up and just bonded it in place.

I'm using OEM for my roadster so it fits perfectly inside the engine cover grille.  My problem has been finding a part number for the electrical connector that plugs into the OEM light bar.  Soldering a couple wires to the leads would be easy but I really want mine to plug in so it can be replaced in the future without all the hassle of re-soldering wires.  Removal of the engine cover and components would also be much easier if everything came apart like original.

Anyone have this part number for the electrical plug that is part of the harness?

I'm assuming there is some VW or Audi part out there that was used as with most of all the rest of the new Lamborghini electrical components and I've yet to find the part number of cross reference.  I went as far as looking up the Lambo part number in the VW / Audi catalog and it gave me a light bar cross reference to a Audi A6.  I found someone on EBay that was parting out an A6 and bought the light bar with the connector (just wanting the connector) and what I got back was the same part number but completely wrong for a roadster.  I'm guessing that the cross reference was for a coupe and not a roadster and the connector / light bar is completely different.

How did you get that price?  Not even with my dealer price does it go down that much.

Here it is:

13.75" Front Length
3/4" front (lens) height
1/2" rear height
1.5" deep

very little curve (neglectable).

I'm looking around for one of those connectors that you listed and I'm willing to gamble the $10 and see if we have a match.  I think I found one in the UK and it's from a 1988 VW Golf MK2 GTI 8V (possible 3rd brake light or windshield wiper motor connector).

Thanks String.. you are the master at figuring out the OEM electrical connectors!   ::beers

Pictures of a OEM LP640 roadster brake light connector.  The connectors are two pins versus to blade style connectors like what is shown for PN 867 906 231.

This is a really odd connector but I can't believe that Audi would've made something special just for this brake light and not borrowed something from the VW Audi parts bin.

Just need to keep looking...

Arrgh , that is not the same connection ..... the info I posted is all coupe . The lens on your light looks angled and of course the coupe light connection is a quarter of the length inboard.
I will try to track down the connector -

OK - got it , the brake light is Audi A6 avant and the connector [ 893 971 632 ] is widely used.
Phew , close call - thought I was going to lose the 'Master' title there for a minute. ::angel

Great find! Is the light for the A6 for roadsters or coupes?

Be careful on this one.. I bought a brake light and pigtail from an Audi that according to the cross references would work.

- 1998-04 Audi A6 3rd brake light with harness

What I ended up with was a brake light with the same part number but was completely different than my OEM roadster brake light (length and shape).

String, is that picture from the internet or is this the actual connector on a roadster?

It looks like the connector you posted earlier so if this picture is from an actual roadster, there is a good chance the part number you suggested is correct and maybe this the contacts that change from blade to round style.

Thanks,

String, I think you are right on 893 971 632 for the plastic connector and the contacts look like 000 979 133 E for the roadster 3rd brake light.

I'll order some and give them a try.

Hi, the pics of the connector are of the one I have on my loom , I have attached a pic end on.
The dimensions are 12mm wide x 7mm tall and section between angled corners 7mm.
Looks like you've researched the light in depth so not sure how to confirm the light any further.

That is a total bummer , I am having trouble finding a connector that small - here is a pic of one that I have next to each other - but even that one is 9mm x 5mm.
Smallest I have found is these 2 on a parts pic, don't have one to measure.
One more idea is to ask our 'roadster owning member' jonv8944s if he would undertake the task of inspecting his plug connector for a part number...

I don't know which is worst, your phone pics or your descriptions.  Give me the width of the hole that the needed plug goes into and the max height of the same plug.  Now the tricky part: Correct me if I have been misinformed but the pins on the brake light are round?  What is the spacing on the two pins?  And the pins are lower than the horizontal centerline?  If the pin spacing is the same as for example: a Speedo cluster plug or an radio plug, could you just grind it down to fit into the light?  or are the pins larger than the type on a radio.  Thanks guys. ;-)  Jim

Thanks for the offer Jim but I want to keep looking for the elusive connector a while longer and make one as suggested if all else fails.  My goal is to locate the factory connector that I hope is an interchangeable part and can be sourced inexpensively.  The connector not only has to fit in there and align with the connectors but also lock in place on the outside and be easily separated  in the future.  I'm still hopeful of locating this part number and documenting here on the site for future reference and complete another piece of the puzzle.

The pictures were a bit of a challenge given how small the part is but I think they give the general idea of the differences that I was trying to point out.  The pictures of the brake light bars that I added previously are all stock photos borrowed from other websites.

Thanks,

Chris

String,

I think that's the trick to solving this and getting someone with a roadster to find a part number and cross reference it.  I've contacted Jon and I might post something out there on one of the Lamborghini owner forums.

Ok.. I pulled out my boxes of electrical stuff and set up everything on the kitchen table so I can solder the connections and take some pictures to share.  My wife has given me a deadline for reclaiming her table so I will work on this over the next couple of days.  I'm buying four connectors from String and it's first come first serve at $20 for the plastic connector and the two metal contact inserts and shipping in the 48 states.  Note that these are for the roadster third brake lights which are different from the third brake light on the coupes.

I've posted a complete write up for the LP640 OEM tail lights, the rear OEM side markers, the roadster OEM third brake light and OEM horns.
