I wasnt sure to start a build diary here since i have one in madmechanics.. Since i am, i am just going to do copy and past so dont be mad.. lol..

The body at the body shop getting straighten up since it got bumped up pretty good all the way down from mexico. I got the kit from a guy by el DF. mexico city.

Now i am just waiting for my custom engine harness to be done by fiero king and waiting on some parts for my custom Reventon Instrument Cluser.
I got a pc and lcd for the cluster. It will look like the original reventon cluster

so im getting ready to do the stretch and to cut the top of the fiero. before i cut the top tho i heard that u need to do the reinforcements firts.
but i cant find any links or pics that show where to do it from.
does any one know of any good links?

to get rid of flex from side to side an tie the side tubs together under the front with a piece of 1/2" X 3" TUBING

Half way down the thread they are doing a VW sedan, they did a lot more cutting than you are doing but you will get the idea. Main thing for yours will be to brace the doors.

Don't forget to brace the cabin before you cut off the roof. If you don't you will be almost impossible to line things up afterward. ::beers

i would stretch the rear first , then mount the sub-frame support around the doors ::thumbup ::headbang

i am getting the body ready for the sub frame but i think i messed up. i cut some place to weld the support but as i start looking at other pics i see that they dont cut where i cut...
what do u guys think??? did i mess up??

i am a lil confuse on where and to what the actual subframe welds to..
i see pics but they dont seem to cut where i cut. the reason i cut it there was cus the pics in lambolounge.
but their frames are a whole different set up than mine..

today i cut the chassis. i tried to keep it straight but it didnt happened. I will do a whole lot of measuring before i weld it all complete.

looking good ,the bottom an or lower 2 are critical .... measure 5 times weld one ,because this body came from Mexico is it set up for 10.5" or 11 "

finally i did the stretch. its all tack welded right now and i will finish welding it later on the week.
The stretch was 11.5 but i have one slight problem.
all measurements added up besides one of them =(
from the firewall straight back to the strut towers . both sides are equal.
the problem comes when i do cross measuring. from left side firewall to the right side strut tower doesnt come one the same measurement the other way. but all stretch points are equal to the same measurements.
seems like the whole back end shifted to the driver side.
cross measurements are less than half an inch off..
should i do the welds all over again ? or
should i try to bend it? or
should i just leave it and deal with the half an inch off?
both sections are facing straight foward. just the back end it shifted to the driver side..
so what do u guys think????????

find it an fix it right , do not final weld , the lower legs have a curve or bend in them look their first ,this must be fixed ,take a break an come back fresh to look it over tomorrow an it will jump right out at you !! you don,t wANT IT TRACKING DOWN THE ROAD SIDEWAYS ::toothy :'(
I will mail you some poster board templates next week for dressing plates on the bottom extensions

I can't give advice from a builder point of view, as I'm just getting into my first build (also a reventon, I'm watching your build with interest ::wave ), but I can give advice from an autobody point of view. Fix it right by doing it over. It'll just create problems down the line like alignment issues, wheel tracking problems, etc...
Just my .02, but taking a shortcut, or letting a small problem go early on just snowballs and snowballs until you are being chased by an avalanche. Italian said it right, just take a step away if you need to. Frustration seems to always breed bad decisions.

It sounds like your stretch distance is fine but your rear section is offset to one side. Put a straight edge on the portion of the fiero frame tubing still attached to the firewall and see how it lines up to the portion of the fiero frame that you have moved with the stretch. ::beers

I'm probably a little late on this but.....have you checked the wheel base numbers on your body? and subtracted the wheel base of the Fiero? The figure of 11.5" stretch sometimes, depending on the body builder, ends up with a build which has tires not centered in the wheel wells. You really NEED to do more homework. There are a ton of builds to look at and websites with build diaries to view. Jim

Do you have the correct wheels and spacers ?
Drop the body on and test fit to make sure the wheelbase is proper before final welding

sorry for the late replies. i did check many times the measurement of the body. all measurements are correct just i did it wrong.
i am in the middle of fixing it tho. its just with all these holidays i have been busy with work.
i am sorry to say but that car is ugly. lol.
i will post more pics soon. and the stretch will be done by the end of the year/world. lol

TAKE YOUR TIME during this part of your build and don't rush it. Don't be afraid to take a couple of steps backwards and redo to make it right. It makes you feel good inside that you did. Jim

I am having trouble aligning the whole frame. I think its cus where i cut it.
I will be stretching it 11.5 so my extensions are 15.5.
2 extra inches on each side that will slide in.
I think if i just use 1 extra inch instead of 2 i will be able to align it.
so my question is would it be any problems if i just do 1 inch on each side??
or i should just keep cutting the frame to make it align??

after all this time i still cant align it right.. GRRRRRRRRRRRr ???
the floor pavement is really off level so its really hard to get it align..
does any one here in LA does the stretch???
all i need is for it to be align and tack weld.. i can do the rest.

Solrac, if your still having trouble stretching your frame and getting everything to align correctly there is a very simple solution to this. Before cutting your frame you should use a telescoping rod for all four point that you will be cutting. you can still use this method in your current state and will work on uneven ground. I do this all the time and it takes out all the guessing when stretching, limos stretching is done this way, but with a better telescoping rod.
step 1. cut out the metal where you welded for the stretch.
step 2. move you back half of the frame back to its original connection points.
step 3. make your telescoping rods. you take DOM round tubing, 2" wide tube plus the length. your length is your inches of stretch plus 6" extra. Than get 8" of a second tube that goes on the outside of your 2" tube. Length of this one is 8". cut the 8" tube in half. Now make 4 more of these the same way.
step 4. Once your moved your frame back to stock dimensions, tack on the tubes to those points. Only tack your outer tube, do not weld where you have cut the 8" inches in half. After you have tacked on all your four points. make sure your inner tube can slide freely back and fourth, you lube it up if you like. When you happy about its movement, weld the outer tubes to your frame so that it will not move on you during the process. Must be strong welds as it will be supporting alot of weight during the stretch.
step 5. you will require 1 floor jack, 2 hand crank jacks that you find in the trunk of your car, measuring tape.
step 6. now you can start spreading your frame back with the hand jacks till you reach your desired length. use the floor jacks to lift up on the back corner of the frame if it seems uneven to you. measure your lengths, measure in the engine bay area corner to corner to make sure its square, than tack the outer tubes to your inner tubes so that it will not move on your when you go to weld your square tubing to the frame. The whole process should cost you no more than $50-60 in metal to do the stretch. You can reuse the telescoping rods again later on if you stretch another car.
Hope this helps, this is the way that I do my stretches and it comes out perfect every time. Takes me 30-40 mins to stretch a car this way.

if its after your wheels, who cares.
either way, if you are using fiero rear suspension it can all be tracked with the adjustable tie rods.
half inch is not the end of the world.

Ohhhhh another thing, if you still had your suspension connected this would be much faster too. have everything sitting on the ground. What I would do first is slice a slit into the frame where its going to be cut, than weld the tubes on. cut the frame, its easier to have the tires still on the back so you can roll the rear half back than do your measurements and weld everything after your happy with the length. don't forget to support your mid section of the car so that so that it doesnt sag when you move it. DON'T EVER LET IT HAVE A POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE BOW! after doing all that, weld in your new beams and reinforce the poopie out of it. add a 1/4"x 6" steel plate over your welds to lock it in
lol thanks, but not a genius just paying it forward.
was watching coach works do their limo stretches, and just adapted their methods into this. I've had different designs to build a frame machine to do the stretching but again it would cost and arm an a leg to have one made. after many attempts and trial and error, the most basic methods work the best. I've been doing it this way for many years now and has not done me wrong

Looking good, Welds could be cleaned up a little and see what you have maybe hit a few spots again, Im sure you aren't finished but the top of the lower frame rails will need a little attention as well over all making great progress! Brakes look Awesome! ::beers

I am in the process of reinforcing the stretch. i bought 3/16 thick 2" wide flat steel. i hope thats good enough for reinforcement

Are you going to wait until you get your car running before mounting the body?. It looks like you have almost everything you need to get the drivetrain back into your car. You're doing an awesome job ::salute

Yes.. I wanna have a full running chassis before I start mounting the body.
I have everything to get it running. All I need is time and knowledge. Lol.
I just order my fuel pump today. I have all the harness needed to run the engine thanks to fiero king but I just need to install it.

Got a lot of parts.. Walbro F20000169 255LPH Performance Fuel Pump. Whole fuel pump assembly from 06 Monte Carlo SSTransgo. Shift kit with performance upgrade from Triple edge performance.. Dave there is a great guy with lots of info and i am waiting on my steering column from 98 Sebring LXi.

I Think my body is way off dimension to the fiero frame :-[
i will be doing more fabrication that what i was thinking. The body has to be mounted more foward that what i was thinking and the steering wheel is more than half ways back of the door is going to be.

The body mounting looks pretty close to me. Maybe it could go a little more forward, not much.
The Steering column problem is common and it can be shortened in several ways. One of the best sources IMO is Rallye over at exotic motorsports. He has lots of vids on YOUTUBE of course but if your stumped, just ask him.

havent really looked into it. ive been looking into how to get the body to mount lower. Right now it is hitting the break booster reservoir. So i am going to try to relocate the whole break booster lower. If that dont help or cant be accomplished then i will just have to lower the suspension which i didnt want to do. will be working on installing the engine first . hopefully next weekend ill get on it.

Before you try to relocate the booster/reservoir. You may want to try placing a few washers on the upper studs of the brake booster. This will allow the booster to lean down thus lowering the reservoir. If you still do not have enough room after you insert the washers, you can change out the reservoir to either a shallow one or go to a set of remote reservoirs. I had to that on my diablo build to clear the body

If you get the front of the body to sit lower will you be able to see out of the windshield? Your roof line will also drop and in the head on picture you're already dealing with very limited space. Not to mention if you put the gauge pod in there it's going to be even more limited from the looks of it. Was this body designed for the fiero or mr2?

I haven't sat on the car my self to see how would it looked. Still trying to deal with details of the engine. I keep jumping back and forth so I won't get discourage lol. The body wasn't design for a specific donor it was build to oem specs. That's why I think I am having these dimension issues.

What door latch would u guys recommend?? My doors are straight and has no angle for w126 latches. I had already gotten the w126 but I noticed they wouldn't fit. Or should I reshape the door to make them fit???

You need to find someone to make you the latch indention and splice it in. I don't have an inner door yet so I can't help at the moment but I'm sure you could find someone on here to help. Good luck.

I agree, you are going to need that piece and then you can use the Mercedes latches. With such little clearance you really need to make sure that your door jamb does not hit the striker on the way down.

If u see the inside there are perforated mesh. thats where it allows to mix/crossflow.. i am not sure if it will tho since its 3 1/2 inch piping inlet and 3" outlet. Maybe there wont be anough back pressure to make them go in that chamber. That what i am googling right now. the stock ls4 piping is 2 1/2.
so i am thinking of resizing the outlet pipe of the muffler to 2 1/2. help it create back pressure and make those chambers work.

It will work for any car with obdii. All the signals it gets its from the obdii ports. If u dont have obdii u can still make it work but it will be just too expensive buying all the sensors.
My set up.
-OBDII compliant.
-From OBDII port to custom build PC
-PC runs a program called dashcommand
-From PC it goes to 2 7" touchScreens that show all the info.
Dashcommand has different skins to show.. I build my own reventon skin to show. it took me forever to build it beacause the program is not really easy to use.

I am sure they are the same. I saw when u got urs and then I order mine. Lol. Lethe only difference is the fans. U got the straight blade fans .

Quick observation,
are you pushing or pulling the air? and are those fans secured already?
i am just thinking that if you want the fans to the rear of the car, i would imagine you want the hose connections to the engine side of the rear, meaning the fans would go to the other side of the Rad, or you could be doing something completely different in which case, please feel free to ignore my comments... and carry on...

It was an ebay brand. That's why I agreed with purple saying that they claim to be that much. Here is the link . I have no idea how to really measure the cfm on them but I'm sure it should work fine.

I hope they are keeping their word on it, they are made in China sold by US seller. Don't get me wrong please, but I doubt they have that kind of accurate CFM. and amp .
I too bought a Civic rads /fans and they claimed 1400 CFM. it was actualy less then 1100. that's is why I used Spal.

Installed the fans on the radiator. And been working in the exhaust part as well.
Here is a pic of the fans in the radiator. A lot of ppl say that the mounting hardware is junk but they don't know how to attached them properly. Here it is.

My Spal fans are rated 255 watts. Just make sure you mount everything with provisions to replace the fans if you need to.

What I said was that the installation kit that comes with the fans is junk because most are cheap plastic and that nylon kits are the best and usually must be purchased separately. That has nothing to do with the installation.

I wasn't referring to u specifically. I google "ebay fans" and mostly everyone says they r cheap. And I don't doubt them or u. But when I see ppl installing fans they don't use the spring. They just tight them as tight as they can and that's what usually makes them break.
They wasn't that expensive at all so if they go out it was worth the try.

hi guys i dont know if this will shed some light on your fan cfm concerns, but i am an air cond tech and 1700 cfm is considered over 4 tons of airflow and is enough volume of air to cool a 3000 sq. ft house. its an enormous amount of airflow. im sure the fans can create enough cooling since there are 2 of them and they are probably somewhere in the ballpark. check the motor rpm if its 1075 or better then you should be fine. hope that helps, i guess you will know for sure after you fire that baby up. nice job on the radiator and fan looks awesome :)

Thanks... I really doubt they make that much but its ok.. as long as they cool it down im good with it.. i will know as soon as fieroking is done with my harness so i can fire it up.. cant wait =0

i got my body to sit down a bit lower and moved the rear firewall 3.5 inch in so it can be straight up.. i also got OEM power window switches and door lock switches.. $30 each switch.. =)

I have been breaking my head over that for the past days. Lol
On the back I made my own coilovers so that's not a problem there. The front I thought about getting drop spindles but that was 550.
Coilovers on th front has had bad reviews. So what I did is get Rodney dickman lowering ball joints. And then I am also going to cut the spring.
That would give me a good stance and keep the suspension geometry somewhat stock.

Exhaust has a really nice tone when revving it up ::headbang! My only concern is the radiator cross pipe and the heat from the muffler. I looks close but could be an illusion just the camera angle ::scratch.
