Title: Tallon's LP640
Post by: Tallon on September 12, 2014, 08:13:39 PM
Hi guys,
Some have asked me to put this back up so here goes.
As some of you know I had my car at work for awhile and brought my chassis back home once I was able to get some concrete poured. Today I finally brought the body home so I am feeling a little more motivated than usual. I figured I'll post my diary back up although I am not sure how much progress I'll make right away. If I have any money it might go in to getting some walls up in this general area.
Sorry I can't get my camera to take decent pics for some reason.
Engine is from a 4.2 Audi A8 with an auto 5hp19 transmission, since I want to have a similar interior set up as oem with paddles and center console controls, using the same actuator setup as shown in usmc_butler's build but only for park, drive, reverse then there will be a sport mode button thanks to the transmission.
Typical chassisworks chassis with some naerc dimensions.

This is just a quick test fit of the front bumper and trust me it looks like a decent fit only in the picture. Some work needs to be done to the body I just haven't figured out exactly what needs modifying yet.

Here's a pic of me test fitting the lens on my modified g28 bucket, I haven't seen anyone else try to do this so thought I'd show it, I've since added sides for a cleaner look and molded the brows in to the bucket, I'm still working on them though.

I don't know if I need to show a lot of the oem style interior parts I've obtained since they're basically the same as everyone else's.
I'm going to do more of the much needed work on the chassis now that I have the body back with me.

Here's my attempt at the newer window switch surround, I planned to send it off for someone else to mess with but I never get the chance to  :sosad

That is not too bad. What material is it made of? How did you make it?

Pretty impressive if you ask me. How did you figure out the dimensions?

I just based it around the audi switch, first one I made was thin looking so I made another and it turned out to look a lot closer. Also if you get an overhead view of the switch in an interior pic you can zoom-in in photoshop and kind of get an idea of the dimensions.
I REALLY don't want to make a second one though. lol

Do you have a switch to try out in it? Since these trim pieces are around $400 each to buy, they are worth quite a bit of work to get right. :)

Thanks dustin, I can't stop looking at it lol

Looking very good bro!  I'm glad you put your build back up and that you finally got your bumpers.  Have you tried fitting the rear bumper on yet?

This should give you motivation to get it done! There'll be plenty of chicks then. Also you now have plenty of time to focus on it.

Sometimes everyone needs a little break from themselves and from everyone else, take time to breath, think and figure out what you really want or don't want and then move slowly from there.... Time heals wounds it also helps align hearts to where they need to be... Good or bad.
Always welcome here if you need a good break

I wish you best tallon.

You will be fine - just remember that when she left she lost, and she took nothing of yours with her. You are complete with or without her (: build the car and have some fun  ::thumbup

This is the type of community that I hoped to build when I decided to create this website a couple of years ago.  A bunch of guys from around the world all connected by common interests and respect for one another.  I'd provide you with some advice Tallon but I think your buddies have pretty much covered it and all I can add is encouragement and a virtual cold beer.   ::beers

A break up and a broken heart eh?  Nothing a good strip club can't cure...for a a moment anyway. ;) Sorry to hear it bro. But like they say, "one man's loss is another man's gain".  Except i assume in this case, change the "man's" to "woman's".  After the heartache, enjoy being single, take a vacationto someplace exotic and live free if but for a moment.

Tallon, finish your car! Take some hotties for a ride, and make sure your ex sees you! She'll be very jealous!
P.S. My wife has been bitching at me for the time I spend in the garage.

Alright, here's the oem splashed rear bumper on a g28.
You can see some of the wheel well needs to be opened up and also, the width of the bumper isn't quite as wide as the body so hopefully there can be some flex to make it work. I don't know how much I can do without having oem taillights, you can't really do anything to the rear of the car without the tail lights in my opinion. The placement of grills, bumper, exhaust cover would all have to be modified when I get the tail lights I imagine. I don't even bother with the hatch yet which then connects to the batwings. All because I don't have one part. That's pretty much how it goes lol
But I'm very happy with how the bumper looks vs the g28 bumper.

Someone with a set of OEM quarters should pull a partial mold of just the wheel arch so the G28 guys can buy it and graft it into the G28 quarters.  This would save you guys a lot of time and you would know that the wheel arches are "right".

Car is looking good Tallon!

Yea I really like the oem wheel arch, the g28 just doesn't have that look. I think cutting that part off as shown in the pics wouldn't be enough.
Thanks Chris!

BIG thanks! I'll be doing this in the next couple weeks and was wondering how the OE bumper will work...

Would you think maybe the best thing to do is to add on to the oem bumper in the wheel arch area?
Title: Re: Tallon's LP640
Post by: Tallon on September 27, 2014, 02:14:50 PM
No it would just make it less accurate which isn't what I want :S
The wheel is supposed to appear as it is forward of center of the wheel well, I think cutting that part off would help with that and make the shape more accurate. I think IKR mentioned the changes that are needed to be made but forget where he said that.

If you wanted to go the way that Sam suggested, you could probably use the section from the G28 rear bumper / wheel arches and modify the rear bumper.  I understand that you don't want to go this route (don't blame you) but it might be an acceptable solution for someone else.

It's too bad that someone hasn't taken the right combination of G28 and OEM parts and created a body kit that combines the best of both worlds.  Generally these changes are made for a single build and everyone else has to decide to either accept the G28 "as is" or reapply the same changes over and over again.   :-\

I think it would happen if enough people had finished a car like this but it looks like the future is all about the aventador

Totally agreed and already we are seeing the Murcie body kits disappearing just like the Countach and Diablo kits did before.  The bar is simply reset and the consumer choice changes.
