Excellent.  That last setup looks like a winner for me.

Thanks very much

It isn't enough to want a Lambo, you have to want to BUILD A CAR.

Thanks guys;

I will call California Motorsports and see what they have.

Also, Adrian, could you post a pick of your cable setup as well?  i am the kind of guy that prefers building stuff than buying if I can figure out a realistic solution....

Thanks
Don

I have a few others on my other machine, I will get to them later

Linlor,
Look at www.numericracing.com for a shifter. The one on their website is a direct replacement for a Porsche but tell Dan or Charles that you need the kitcar version and it eliminates the bottom half of the mount, making it a much better fit in a high tunnel car. I find the same problem with the Brandwood and CMS shifters, they are very bulky. This is a nice piece, the price is well less than the other two, and the service is good. From there wwww.cablecraft.com will make the push-pull cables to your length specifications. They have offices all over. About $20 worth of stock Cablecraft parts mate the metric shifter to the SAE cables, they know the parts. I have tried a lot of ways, done a lot of research, and am very happy with this on two cars. A big fringe benefit of this is that the arm motion on the shifter is reversed from the other options, which means that it can work from the front of the gearbox instead of coming out the back. This means it does not have to make a 180 bend and there is no hardware hanging off the back of the gearbox.

you could also contact California motorsports, they have a billet shifter that is gorgeous.  I am using cables, I do have some pics of a parallel arrangement that does use a bell crank

Thanks RT.  This looks MUCH CLEANER than the parts bin I have hanging off the back of the trans right now. I will have to take a pic and get it up here for everyone to see in all it's glory..... ::toothy

Here are sketches I made of how you can make your own shifter and linkage.

Options for a G50 shifter
« Reply #1 on: September 09, 2013, 05:56:48 PM »
In the Countach I got, I have a G-50 that has a pretty Micky Mouse looking shifter setup. Looks like a solid rod that goes through the centre console back to the shift rod but also has a pivot mechanism non the back of the trans and, I think a cable but I can't tell just yet until I can get the body off and have a closer look.

I have been looking at various options for shifter mechanisms and I have come up with three so far.  GT40s.com is a wealth of information....

  • Solid Rod
  •    good arrangement but seems pretty complicated to route through centre tunnel and back to trans shifter
  • Rod and cable
  •     rod pushes and pulls and cable rotates the shaft for each gear set
  •     still have the rod routing and shifter cable looked interesting from what I saw
  • Cable
  •     The cable looks to be a decent arrangement but the rotating cable comes in at a huge round arc to be 90* to the shaft to push and pull to rotate
  •     I like the comments about having a solid feel

What are folks' opinions on which way would be best to go with?  what have folks done that have the G50 of UN1 or another trans that has the shifter shaft out the rear of the trans?
I would like to remove the lever setup as it looks bad hanging out of the back of the car.  Doesn't look like it would last very well either....  Kinda partial to the cable setup due to the easier routing but is there a way to make up a bell crank or similar setup to have both cables run parallel vs. one arcing way off to the side to come in at 90*??  I would ;also like to have a fairly clean setup so it doesn't look like I raided my parts bin like the current one does..... ::help

Thanks
Don
