Well to draw a conclusion to this topic after most people think im a idiot  ::duh I decided to stick with the coupe. To get the correct parts I need and the quality I want is going to run me more then I wanting to pay right now. Thanks for all the responses, I do believe my next project will be a roadster and after visiting with Texas last weekend it will be on a Boxter or custom chassis ::beers

I like the look of the roadster, and apparently there is a top for it already or you cold make one. But how will you make it look legit by chopping a top off of a coupe body you already have  ::tongue Just buy a roadster body

Easy solution, just like the current Covettes and many other convertible cars today. Just about any car alarm shop etc can install the mechanism. Whenever you hit unlock on a key fob then try to open the door, or pull the door handle from the inside or outside (provided the car is not locked), the windows will automatically roll down a specific distance to clear the roof or convertible top "lip" where the window seals. Go for the Roadster no question !

I have had exactly the same question in my mind whether I should go  roadster on the Vigi or stay coupe..... If I had to go roadster I have already decided that I would have a removable hard top.... What is kinda worrying me is how the hell do you open the doors if the side windows are closed? Is it a stupid question? What I mean is that when the windows are rolled up it should lock into the hardtop because the glass will be exposed at the top right? So, if it is rolled up, then the doors won't open, am I right or living in a little box?

Here are some examples of tops....
Honestly, I like the fit on that black roadster in the first aerial pic. IMO, the way that hardtop fits that black roadster, it looks better than a coupe. I also prefer the roadster hatch anyhow. Plus you still have the ability to remove it anytime you want.

ROADSTER dammit!!!!!!! Who needs a roof anyway? Mould the doors permanently in place, lose the door glass, and just get in like the Dukes of Hazzard!

831.43 for the grills I will need, plus 800.00 for the roadster parts for the conversion. So with that being said in the long run no headliner to finnish, no A-pillar trim (from the windshield back) won't need the map light sunglasses holder any longer. I'm thinking in the long run it will help with the final touches. I got a PM that made a good point that if done correctly you could modify the top that gets cut off and make it a removable hard top... I believe IKR sell's these as well, I don't know what he gets for them however? Just a couple thoughts...

I have two replicas and two Fieros.  Only one of them is a hardtop.  Convertibles just look lower.  Lower is good.  Yes you can get too much attention.  I don't think that is only in roadsters.  We have to have a backup car that we can drive when we are tired of everyone looking at us.

Tempered glass is much stronger than laminated glass, and very hard to break. Thats why it used on door windows. Doors get slammed all the time, and laminated glass will eventually crack. Laminated glass is used on windshiels because if its chipped, it doesnt crack into a million pieces (obscuring visability) and come flying at your face when it shatters.
If your car flips over, more than likely the side glass will break. If it doesnt, you have 2 options; kick out the windshield, or keep a window hammer attached to your seatbelt like I do. They are sold at most auto parts stores, and have a pointed hammer head on one side designed to break tempered glass, and a belt knife on the other side that will slice through a seat belt instantly in case its jammed.
