Title: Evolution L147-LP640 Build
Post by: String on April 02, 2014, 03:08:09 PM
Here is the start to my overdue build diary . Today is my birthday and seemed the ideal start date. ::toothy
This is a construction based on a replica frame chassis and original car moulded individual panels.
I'll start off with a couple of 'ideal finished look ' images and some chassis pictures and hopefully make some progress this year.....

Happy Birthday..... Cool build too.  Where do you plan on getting the body? Any engine/drivetrain plans yet?

Happy B-Day! I've got my popcorn ready because I am not gonna miss one bit of this thread. I expect it will be epic! :drool

Are those chassis pics OEM or is that the one you built yourself? I assume it is your own creation but it looks too good!

Whoa,  ::bounce , thanks for the nice 'kick start ' to the diary  :) . The chassis drawing example shown and the frame on the rotisserie is my own drawing and build - which explains some of the time taken to date  ::study . These pictures are 2012/2013 to give some kind of starting point and an order to progress , also I was unable to make any headway for the last 6 months of last year to now.
I have only very recently obtained the necessary LP640 panels to update the body , so the upgrade is the reasoning behind the name of the build or 'EVO' . The two body versions also featured heavily in EVO Magazine as long term cars , one of which covered 100,000+ miles , so   fitted in nicely with the theme.
I also have an ongoing task to complete with regard to photographing all of the interior components and adding to the Interior subsection. This I aim to complete soon now that the light / weather is turning favourable to take good quality pictures .

These are the target pictures of the completed car - I was looking for  :CSS, and a couple more of the suspended frame with body panels in place.
 ::beers

Well the 'side yard setup ' is indeed - just that .... it does have the feature of a lift though , so I can bring the car up to ground level " thunderbirds style " . This is a couple of pics of the firewall and a gratuitous pic of my other passion .......well for 20K , I decided to leave it.. ::)

I made these in steel because I feel they are an important part of the firewall and the perimeter gives extra surface area to bond the rear quarter panel to.

I'd like to make them out of steel :)
or buy them, either way

Those panels are sick! How did you get the decorative (I know they provide more support too) indentations? Were those stamped or did you take after the panels with a hammer and hopes?

If i may ask....... What does the L147 stand for? Just curious

The L147 is the lamborghini model designation for the Murcielago and appears on european VIN plates and on the US sales sheet. I use the L147( incorrectly) to distinguish the original shape from the LP640 ( which is still an L147)  ::duh clear ....:)

Those panels are sick! How did you get the decorative (I know they provide more support too) indentations? Were those stamped or did you take after the panels with a hammer and hopes?

The ribs were formed with a 'bead roller' and aswell as being for the sake of replication  ::help , I was keen to see if they had the effects I was hoping for , which was to stiffen the panel and prevent panel vibration from the inevitable warpage of welding the panels in.

Ok , time to move this forward a little bit .

I have been wrestling with a couple of directions to go in ....manual or auto and whether to get some US or european suspension ...so still working on those.
Another plan is currently in limbo ...for three months ... :(

So for progress , the front end panels and trims are test fitted with the boot carpet.

Also the washer bottle is fitted . This kit is quite compehensive and saves trying to make something fit when in actual fact this is a snug fit already and has the fitting to fill the hole in my carpet  8)

The windscreen wiper is test mounted but the securing of the mounting frame is not yet done and may need some trimming. The swept area is spot on with only a slight mod to the wiper arm and uses the full size oem spec wiper blade , the later aero type.

Maybe more parts for christmas ..... :occasion

Definitely interested in seeing how you mount the suspension to your frame.

I can temporarily bolt the mount brackets to check geometry is ok and check wheel location - when I get the hub into the bearing , and now the steering rack has arrived  :drool   I can work out the height of the mount plates for it and check bumpsteer .
Have the opportunity to try bushes and camber bolt into OE mounts , perfect fit . ::)
