Title: Lambobuilder's Aventador Build
Post by: lambobuilder on October 23, 2020, 06:29:23 PM
I am going to start an Aventador build. Chassis will be an NAERC chassis modified for the Aventador. I have placed my order with Dur-A-Flex for the body. I've had the partial built chassis for 16 years that has been hanging in my shop. Just getting started and I know I will have questions as I proceed. Also have a FB group where I will also be sharing updates. https://www.facebook.com/groups/3335191356516378 (https://www.facebook.com/groups/3335191356516378)

First purchase from eBay. OEM 19' and 20" rims. Fun fact, on this years model, rears are 5 x 120mm and fronts are 5 x 112mm. Found Timpkin 120mm hubs with 30 spline centers for rear. Have S10 (5 x 4.75) hubs to fit Corvette knuckles for front but will need to have them re-drilled to 5 x 112. Will post progress as it happens.

Working on getting the suspension components. Got 2 Corvette C5 spindles, Timkin 5 x 120mm hubs for rear. S10 hubs for Corvette spindles but needed to have them re-drilled to fit the 5 x 112mm bolt pattern with 14mm x 1.5 studs to match the studs on the Timpkin hubs. OEM Lamborghini hubs do not have studs, they use lug bolts.  Also had to have the center of the front rims milled out to 70mm to accommodate the larger color on the S10 hubs.
Also managed to score a Brand New Audi B7 A4 2.0T FWD GVD 6 Speed Manual Transmission OEM 01X 300 044 for $1082 thanks to 76MX alerting me to the great buy.

Was making progress and going to start on suspension when I had a bit of a setback. Discovered that I had warped my frame. Need to get that fixed then move on. Will get my body from Dur-A-Flex in January.

Setbacks are part of the build process. If it was easy, then everyone would be building one. Good you found the issue early. Keep up the meticulous work! Great build!

Lookin good Dale! You'll like that shell, a lot of gel coat to level panels out and very thick glass.

Hi Dale,  I see that the cool temps require warmer clothing.  Since you had to ream the taper in the front A arms to accept the Honda ball joints, why didn't you just ream to fit the Corvette ball joints?  Also, why not just use the Corvette front hub & wheel bearing instead of the S-10 as both would have needed the wheel stud pattern changed but you wouldn't have had to modify the mounting bolt holes in the knuckle to accept the S-10 bearing?

According to NAERC plans, the Corvette ball joints are not load bearing. Hind site, I would have been money ahead to use the Corvette hubs and had them machined to the 115mm bolt pattern. Would have been cheaper than 3 spindles, extra ball joints, hydraulic press and machining costs. I'm a slow learner, but I am teachable.

OK Dale,  You, RT, and I are in the same age group (I think).  Seems that I remember something about the way that the front springs are located/positioned.  Patience is a virtue that we all need every day but Lowes doesn't carry that in their inventory ::thumbup ::usa

Agreed. Just hit 74 last week in game of life. Based on how long it takes to build one of these, it's a race to the finish to see if I can finish before I get to old to do it.  :LL:

Hi Dale,  Is there any process that might include scribe cutting on the underside of the warped corners and heating to bend as necessary or is it cut and glass time as required?  Have you checked with the manufacture for any help as it appears that the panel needed to be put in a fixture and clamped to prevent warpage during the cure process?  On the other hand, you could just dura-glas the top to a flat surface mate to the adjacent panel.

Did not check with Dur-A-Flex on warpage. It's possible that when I got part that It was fine and warped in my storage. I should have tried the heat process as have done that before but it's been a while. Still a little more tweaking required but that's always going to be the case. Thanks for suggestion.
