And I have a  few of the BMW V12's sitting around should you decide to go that path.  I can say for myself it is as much about the AURAL experience as it is anything else, besides I cannot get use to buying rear tires as much as I have to for my Merc V12

You have not researched enough to see the whole picture. A 450HP aluminum small block with a Mr. Goodwrench Factory Warranty, one of Eric's (AEAuto) adapter plates and clutch and starter, and a Porsche/Audi 01X transaxle will be well under $10,000. Just a set of headers for a V-12 could easily be over $10,000 and/or a multi year project. That is only one example. You are going to have similar issues with the water pump, air conditioner, wiring, and so on. A nice set of ceramic headers for the small block is $99. But as I keep saying, if you have cubic money, go for it and continue the V-12 pursuit.
Your right i havent researched enough ive just started, i found a guy with several complete bmw and merc v12s not to far from me wanting 1500 to 2000 for the motors depending on mileage and year said computers harnesses everything comes with them. So im guessing its adapting them to this application is what gets expensive? Im not set on a v12 at all just kicking things around man. I own my own business make a decent living not rich by any means not trying to invest 6 figures in a replica just want something i can tinker around in my shop me and my friends, (i have alot of good friends fabricators, auto body, upholstery etc) that have been in their respective trades for 20 or 30 plus years and are ridiculously good at what they do. Ive got a 5000 sq ft heated and cooled shop with alot of cool poopie in it lift, mig, tig, plasma, to many metal working tools and equipment to list and plenty of time im in no rush. If i sound like a retarded newb its because i am when it comes to replica cars. But everyone starts somewhere, my 1st try at building a replica  was like 15 years ago or so got taken for close to 20 grand by a place called rks designs (believe that was the name of the pricks company) and honestly my main goal at this point is to not get messed again. 1st one kinda left a shitty taste in my mouth turned me off of it for a long time.

You can make good power with the LS engine easier than any other.  There is a world of aftermarket support for that engine.  450HP will give you as much fun as you can handle and not break the bank.  I make adapters to use that engine with the Audi or Porsche Boxster transmission.  I recommend the Boxster S 6-speed.  Easy to find and not too expensive.  Easier to install than the Audi.  If you just have to have the V12 I make adapters for that one too.

Just talked to the guy had a Mercedes v-12 twin turbo out of a s600 but its got a spun bearing owner ran it out of oil :'( Hes got several 740IL V12s hes selling pretty cheap but I think listening to 76MX is prob gonna be the best route. A guy can do an awful lot with a LS motor

BMWs are the lower hp, but lighter weight (500#) and smaller package, you can expect 350-385hp and tq NA

Merc  389-402 hp and 400-428 tq for the M120 up to 750 for an AMG built 6.0l,
1999 Zonda C12: 6.0 M120(the same as S class) 402hp
2000 Zonda C12 S: 7.0 AMG M120 543hp
2002 Zonda C12 S 7.3: 7.3 AMG M120 547hp
2005 Zonda F: 7.3 AMG M120 602hp
2006 Zonda F Clubsport: 7.3 AMG M120 650hp
2009 Zonda Cinque: 7.3 AMG M120 678hp
2009 Zonda R: 6.0 AMG M120(from a CLK-GTR) 750hp
but as you could imagine those are hard to find, they are a bit heavier at 650lbs but they sound like THIS!!!!

Lol dont have to have a v12 just thought it would be a good thing but i guess its a little cost prohibitive lol. Still just trying to plan and figure it out, like i said before wants and whats realistic are usually 2 different things. I havent resesrched specs on the bmw or mercedes v12s but would have thought theyd be in the 450 to 600 range stock.

You want 600-800 horsepower AND a BMW engine? I misspoke earlier about adding $30,000, but again it is your car and if that is what you want I would still be happy to add $60,000 to your build. In the words of the Toyota engineers when asked how much money they planned to spend developing a Nascar program, you can have an objective or you can have a budget. Let us look at this from a different angle, what is your build budget? Then we can tell you your options.
