I'm in the process of building a small cnc mill. The geometry will be based on a Bridgeport knee mill with the exception of the z-axis (vertical movement). I currently have the double reduction/no reduction gear box built from my own design. The spindle runs 5000rpm-20,000rpm, but that is only suitable for cutting soft materials like foam or wood.. So you can run the gear box in reduction mode which reduces the spindle output speed to 625rpm-2500rpm. I'm currently drawing the table assembly.

That is absolutely remarkable!
I was contemplating on ordering an eBay 4axis CNC router, still undecided though. Not a Chinese model, made in USA, only 2,200.

Thanks ::salute
There are several web forums dedicated to building your own machine if you decide to go that route. If you decide to purchase a built machine, make sure its capable of cutting the materials you have in mind. I found that most of the cheaper ebay machines have a low torque/high rpm spindle that won't work well for cutting aluminum, steel or titanium.

This is a great example of the quality of work he puts in every part he makes. Everything he has custom made for me is this caliber of nice! Looks great!

Some more work on designing the table. 12"x24" travel on precision ground tool steel ways and linear bearings.
