Yes , was  just  joking around..   The set-up  I  linked to   and one  MM  uses  will  pretty  much  work  with  any  automatic   transmission,  it  does  not  have to  be   electronic.

How do you build the computer to tell the paddles to go up or down?

Once you have your schematic, burn a circuit board and solder it up! The paddles dont go up and down down though  :)

No up and down down?  How about up up and away?

this works if you  are looking to just eliminate the  shifter..
with the  arduino it  could be  changed  more to  to   make  it an  actual shift  controling the shift  solenoids when in  "D".. and still  use the actuator to  control  from P R N D

Aerospace machinist. I work in the composite (carbon fiber) portion of the company that builds military aircraft. Love it!

That is pretty cool.  I live in same town as Arnold Air Force Base ,  they do tons of testing  on Jet engines and  had  9 of the top 10  test tunnels in the world...
Btw:  I build caskets...

This place actually  seems to have more what is needed http://www.palmerperformance.com/products/dashcommand/index.php/   only bad thing is  a  carpc is required.....  but  total cost could be less than new set of aftermarket guages.....   You can look through skins  people has made , one guy build a skin  based on the Lexus LFA.  It uses  your OBDII port and you can make a guage for any information  recieved  to the PCM...

I have a set of exterior door handles  bought from LamboChik (on MM).  I paid  $150.
They need a little work ( little sanding  maybe a bit of filler  to finish off nice.
The wire are just small led  she added for back lighting (I guess).
If interested make offer, I am not going to need these anytime soon.

DEI 528T  is a pulse timer relay, you could use a  pin switch added to  door handle and time it for 1-2  secs  ....

Tony ,  that same switch  for $33  can be had for $5.99 , http://www.adafruit.com/products/481
