In the Countach I got, I have a G-50 that has a pretty Micky Mouse looking shifter setup. Looks like a solid rod that goes through the centre console back to the shift rod but also has a pivot mechanism non the back of the trans and, I think a cable but I can't tell just yet until I can get the body off and have a closer look.
I have been looking at various options for shifter mechanisms and I have come up with three so far. GT40s.com is a wealth of information....
- Solid Rod
- good arrangement but seems pretty complicated to route through centre tunnel and back to trans shifter
- Rod and cable
- rod pushes and pulls and cable rotates the shaft for each gear set
- still have the rod routing and shifter cable looked interesting from what I saw
- Cable
- The cable looks to be a decent arrangement but the rotating cable comes in at a huge round arc to be 90* to the shaft to push and pull to rotate
- I like the comments about having a solid feel
What are folks' opinions on which way would be best to go with? what have folks done that have the G50 of UN1 or another trans that has the shifter shaft out the rear of the trans?
I would like to remove the lever setup as it looks bad hanging out of the back of the car. Doesn't look like it would last very well either.... Kinda partial to the cable setup due to the easier routing but is there a way to make up a bell crank or similar setup to have both cables run parallel vs. one arcing way off to the side to come in at 90*?? I would ;also like to have a fairly clean setup so it doesn't look like I raided my parts bin like the current one does.....
Thanks
