Title: Door shocks for Aventador
Post by: lambobuilder on March 13, 2025, 09:29:59 AM
What length and lifting pounds are Aventador builders using for door shocks?

Dale,

I have a set of OEM Aventador door shocks that I could measure the length, if that would help. Not sure what the spring rate is in these though.

Dale,

Measurements for the OEM door shock:
"A" Ball to Ball overall length = 15-1/4"
"B" Body length from ball to end = 8-1/2"
"C" Body Diameter = 0.90"
"D" Shaft Diameter = 0.375"

I was not able to compress the shock by hand to get a compressed length.

Thanks. I know they must be strong as their placement is very close to hinge point.

I forget what mine are, somewhere around 200lb for now. They were really just temporary ones until I finish the doors and can measure the final door weight. They'll get pretty heavy with all the interior parts. Your door weight could be quite different from other builds, so best to measure them.

I'm sure you know the procedure to determine what shock is needed, but I'll post it here for others that don't.

1. Using a "hanging luggage scale", measure the weight of your door from the latch (W1)
2. Measure the distance from the latch to the pivot point of the door hinge (L1)
3. Measure the distance from the gas shock attachment point (on the door) to the pivot point of the door hinge (L2)
4. Calculate the gas shock force required using the formula:

  W2=(L1)(W1)/(L2)

W2 is the force required for the shock to "hold" the door in place.

5. Add 10-15% to ensure the shock will lift and hold the door, without it being too hard to close, or slamming up to hard.

Thanks Neils88. You are correct that typically, the weight will vary based on the builders' choices. Appreciate the formula.

I used 150lbs force on the blue car Dale. Not sure what factory is
