Wow! Thanks Man. Saved me a lot of trouble. I bought a fish scale and pulling up on the one side ball on the cover, got about 58 pounds. So that would be 28 to 30 pounds for each strut.
My engine cover is this style though (Pic). Is that what you've got, or do you have the lower louvers?

Hey I went out and looked for the part number on my IFG louvered engine cover struts.  The part number on the gas strut says RB8795064.  I googled searched "gas lift struts RB8795064" and multiple matches came up such as "Strong Arm 4405" struts which cross reference the same in the description.  I sure you can find other manufacturers and part numbers that will cross reference with the one I gave you.  Good luck!  J

    No two weigh the same but here is a method works for deck lids and doors alike. Hook a $5 fish scale to the ball on the deck lid with a wire, then lift in the same axis as the strut would be. Divide the pounds by two and that is your required strut.

I bought this car (Fiero Based Diablo), with no supports to lift the engine compartment cover.
The distance between the two ball connectors on each side is 25 inches, but does anyone know what poundage the hydraulic struts should be for each side?
