Probably a variation in the vin tag should call out the engine difference. Some GM trucks like mine have the same engines but one is high output which is designated by a D instead of E for normal output.

I saw that also, but I don't know how to tell the differences between the two.  If you wanted the one with the higher horsepower it would be safer to go with a 2002 and newer model.  Maybe you can call the dealer and give them the VIN, they should be able to tell you the engine it has.  I'll do a bit more research to see if I can find out for you.

Now if we could get our hands on one of these engines we would kill, they are available on the 2003 and newer A6's I believe:
4.2TT 40v 4,172 cc (254.6 cu in) V8 2xDOHC 339 kW (461 PS; 455 bhp) @ 2,800 550 N·m (406 ft·lbf) @ 2,000 4.5 sec 168 mph (unlimited) 2003–2004

There's different 2.7L turbos? How can you tell the difference? Like if it's 2000-2001 it can be either or?

2000-2005 - 184 kW (250 PS; 247 bhp)
1999-2001 - 169 kW (230 PS; 227 bhp)

John said that would work, I asked about both of those.

Anyone know what these engines sound like? This is important for my build. I couldn't find any older cars on youtube, just the new v12's.

Could the engine from this one work?  They are more readily available

How about this Turbo model?

I won a bid today on a 1996 BMW 750 for $1,200.00 with a clean title and no damage.  Bad thing it was on a minimum bid so I don't know yet if they are going to give it to me, we'll see.

Let me know if those A6 Audi's will work, I also need to get my donor soon!

I'm not sure about all, this is what John said.

There are plenty of Audi 2 wheel drive gearbox's that will work, 4 speed, 5speed and 6 speed. Prices from $300.00 on up. Ebay is a great resource.

No, can't use the trans but just buy a fwd trans $300+, john watson says most audi's will bolt right up with out an adapter. Everything else in the car can be used in the build and sell the trans and what isn't used. But that's who talked me into this I think it's a good idea.
