Which steering column for Fiero based Diablo Roadster?

Neils88, that sounds like a viable option too. Maybe easier to source than the Alfa Romeo column. My donor was an ‘85 GT. I will need to hit the junkyard and see what I can find. Going to get some headlights for my build on Monday so I will scope out the yard.

I used a 2006 Cobalt steering shaft on my build (Aventador on 88 Fiero). It has an EPS... though you'd have to figure out how to wire that (I'm building my own controller once I have time to devote to that). The good thing about the EPS is that the steering works fine even if it's not wired right away... so wiring can be done at a later date after the rest of the build is finished. The steering column was relatively easy to install.

I used a Sebring column on my Fiero based murci build but I would highly recommend an electric assist column from the chevy equinox. I installed one in my Aventador build and also installed a potentiometer and you can change the assist with a twist of the pot. When turned up all the way, I can spin the wheel with my pinky

You got any pics of the rack installed?  I'd like to see that!  I've got an app that might be the trick

Lambodoc, what year 164? Or were they all the same for that vehicle? If it isn’t too cost prohibitive that might be a good idea. Being close to original would be nice.

If you're looking for authenticity then go with the Alfa Romeo 164 column.  It is the same column used by Lamborghini in the Diablo.  The only difference is (for some reason) the Lambo has a removable (bolted in) ignition switch and the Alfa is riveted in.

Camaro/Firebird 2000.  I'm going to have to shorten the stock Fiero column and install a double U-joint because of the angle coming down to the rack.  I also incorporated a cross bar connecting the R&L upper coil-over mounts.

It definitely is nice. You never see power steering on the Fiero or all tube chassis builds.

Electric assist sounds cool. I might have to browse the junkyard and see what I can find. I don’t totally mind the manual steering but I imagine with wider tires in parking lots it could be a bear.

Hi All! I have been searching high and low and cannot find any answer in here. I had to tear apart the Fiero column yesterday to get the lock out. The previous owner re-keyed it with all the same tumblers. So the factory key no longer worked. I figured since it has been out in the elements, why not just replace the whole column since I think it is too long in stock form. I thought Cavalier was the way to go but now I am reading Seabring? Which is the preferred steering column for these Fiero based Roadster builds? Thanks in advance!
