Crash Bars in your doors

I always get scared when I see the tiny crash bars put in diablo /murci kits .  They look like rods that will impale you like a sword in the event of a crash !!

Here is what the fiero crash bars look like.




This isnt a pic of my kit but its what I have in my 355 kit . I feel a little better knowing I have this substantial protection . I have yet to see a lambo build with suitable door protection

Guys, My Countach has a crash bar in the door, and its was built by a vehicle certifier, crazy thing was the hinge was solid, attached to the chassis, the attachment to the lock plate was good, but all they did for the sticker plate was glass a piece of 10mm plate into the door jam, with not a sign of support back to the chassis at all, so that is going to get sorted, my donor was a Toyoya Soarer that got t boned by a truck the door and b pillar moved in about a foot, even the centre tunnel got squashed, must have been a big hit lucky there was no passenger and driver was ok. I was at a U- pull -it in the weekend and noticed a old audi 100 1996 I think  and it had an alloy bar in the door looked pretty solid and looked like it was lightweight worth a look also.

I don't think that 10# in a door would be that much extra weight.  Two heavy wall pieces of tubing spaced 6" apart running from the hinge bracket rearward to the latch plate should suffice.  Or maybe just one would do in a pinch.  There is just no protection without a bar for any angle of hit.  If you had your window up, you now have 1/8" of fiberglass and a window regulator and the inner framework to protect you.  Not enough for my wife.  Another area that I feel is overlooked is the striker on the quarter panel.  It also needs to be braced down to the framework and rearward for strength.  Some of the chassies that I have seen built are very poorly reinforced around the passengers.  OEM has their problems also.  U-tube  showed a Gallardo that flipped off a road onto its top.  They got the driver out thanks to the swing out Gallardo doors.  The roof had totally collapsed.  Had it been a Diablo....ouch!  I'm not worrying about a few extra pounds slowing me down.  If I was....I'd go on a diet.  You can see in the following pic a crash bar installed even though small in size.

While I agree on the safety issue, I know how heavy Fiero doors are because of the crash bar.  I guess we could get a stronger lift to counteract the weight.  Of course extra weight doesn't help performance or handling.

      IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, TRY TO PUT A CRASH BAR IN YOUR DOORS!!!  Look at how low our cars will be to the ground.  Now visualize the height of a front bumper of a "normal" car will be.  Granted, no one wants to be T-boned but let's try to "Think Safety" in all of our builds.
