yes we have a similar thing in Point Roberts, its around 35 min drive south for me and costs a few dollars to have them accept it, but then you still need to declare it at the border and by the time they are done with you it costs more than the original item...
but the shipping for the sake of a border is BS. we have over a billion in trade each day between Canada and the USA  but cant send a package either direction without subsidizing the deficit of each country...

i find it very annoying.

here in Toronto we shipped our parts to Niagara Fall US just over the bridge, where's  warehouse (BCI )
 they charge like $5 for each package.  45min drive . I spend good two years going back and forth for  my parts. you must have something like in BC./Washington border
