Ccemn1... just to clarify... when he says "direct bolt in" he means that the 3800 and the LS4 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the stock Fiero transaxles so you don't require an adapter plate. However, neither is a simple bolt in upgrade and there is still a lot of work required for installation. Go to PFF (Pennock's Fiero Forum) and review some of the engine installation threads for details. Fyi the simplest V8 conversion for the Fiero is the Caddy 4.9L.

Use the 3800 V6.  Direct bolt in and plenty of power.  The Getrag is stronger but hard to find and parts are practically non-existant for them.  An LS4 would be a direct bolt on without an adapter but you will need a custom flywheel made. Let me know if you want to go that route.

Getrag or Isuzu? Both have been used with varying degrees of success.  The Isuzu is a little weaker, and should be used gently off the line. However, neither is the best choice for the SBC. Plus I'm not sure how easy it is to get the adapter now...

Does anyone know how well the stock Fiero 5 speed/clutch holds up, being pushed by a GM 350?
Are there any up grades, or beefing up that can be done to make it work?
