Got back into the tunnel and lengthened the water and brake lines. I did not cut any hydraulic lines, brake and clutch, instead I purchased prefab extensions from the parts house. I disconnected the OEM line fittings and attatched the extensions here. Very simple and easy and cheap.

Used heavy gauge square tubing run as deep into the rockers as it would allow to re support the outer ends. I also used 3" angle iron run inside and along the top corners of the tunnel to strengthen it. Then I filled and crossed welded different sized flat bar and tubing 1/4" thickness to strengthen the structure a bit more. The non structural filler panels I welded 16g steel. Flooring etc.

Nothing complicated here. Set up my chassis on rolling carts. Didnt have any kind of frame machine. Just had to do a ton of cross measures to make sure everything was squared up before I welded it up. This took a lot of trial and error. But I got it. I learned alot from this experience. I could have done a few things to make it easier. But wasnt too bad.

Back in the shop. Removed the gas tank and all the water and brake lines from the tunnel. Just a few hours......and ready to stretch.

Chassis gutted down and ready for stretch. A little bit more gets removed later, but I had to stretch the chassis first in order to begin placement of the body so that I could find what exactly needed to be removed. Taking down the MR2, cutting the excesses took all of one day. Radiator does not need to be moved or angled in any way.

All the extra metal removed to allow the Fiberglass body to fit cleanly and as close as possible.

Beginning taking the MR2 down. Fenders, panels, bumpers, roof, lights, etc. All off before cutting. I sold most of the parts locally and on Craig's so I made a bit of my money back on the doner. Almost half back.

They are Helo. They are discontinued. Only whats left on the market and not much. Mostly polished aluminum and black centers.

So I purchased my wheels next for the mock up. Helo 18 x 8 fronts and 20 x 11 rears. Also made my own center caps to cover up the originals. I really liked the way they turned out.

Searched High and low for a doner. I wasn't sure I wanted a Fiero or MR2, had even considered a Boxster. In the end, I found a great running, well kept 91 MR2 just a state or about 9 hours away in Arkansas. So, took the drive out there to pick it up. It was a beautiful car at a steal of a price. I just had to do it! I drove it around for about 4 weeks to make sure then put it all in the garage for the beginning of the project.

Had to play around with a spare set of rims I had lying around. LOL. You know you did it too! It was surely an exciting time for me!
