You know I'm in for a set.  I don't really care what they are made out of, plastic or fiberglass.. For some reason they are super expensive at lambostuff but at eurospares the are only €97.00 each.

We are on the same page brother. I'm thinking less than half that price would be a good goal. The lower the better. :)

It all really depends on what it costs to get the tooling set up and how many people want/need them. The ABS material should be fairly inexpensive I think.
If I don't have time to do it right, when will I have time to do it over?

I agree, they are way too expensive and hard to get. I am trying to figure out a way to reproduce them somewhat more economically. I figure it can't be that tough but I won't make it a priority if not many are interested.

These are really expensive for what they are, maybe you can make them some other way? The money could be better spent into something that would go into our interiors I think
or side mirrors etc that I know we all need

Thanks Chris.

Interesting idea to vacuum form them. That may keep the costs down too. I'll look into it.

BigPines, I would be in for a set if they are made from ABS and the price was good.

Personally I think these are great candidates for vacuum forming.  Just split the duct on the factory seam so it's in two parts, place the flat side down and lay them next to one another.  Pull the plastic down over them, cut and trim and bond them together.

Thanks,

Chris

I would be interested in seeing what your parts look like. What are they made of? Care to share how you decided to make your molds?

So that would be approx $532 USD plus shipping from Europe. Is that for the molds themselves or the ducts?

Do you have pictures?

Thanks to Pedro for alerting me, I have come into possession of some OEM Murcielago LP640 Front Bumper Air Ducts / Brake Cooling Ducts. These are the same parts as:

http://www.lambostuff.com/product.asp?prid=43973&webcat=no
http://www.lambostuff.com/product.asp?prid=43974&webcat=no

http://www.eurospares.co.uk/searchResult_one.asp?S=410807605A&TM=2&TMo=1012&TA=2&TB=50183
http://www.eurospares.co.uk/searchResult_one.asp?S=410807606A&TM=2&TMo=1012&TA=2&TB=50183

I am contemplating reproducing these for forum members but before I go to all that cost and trouble, I'd like to gauge interest in such a project.

The plastic looks like it may be black 1/16" ABS with one smooth and one textured side. I was thinking I could get some plastic sheets, heat them and then push them into a mold/form to form each side and then bond the sides together similar to what has been done on the OEM part. Not sure what to make the molds out of though. I could possibly use body filler over wood. Any ideas would be appreciated. I could also make some fiberglass molds but that seems a bit expensive. Of course, if I made fiberglass molds, I would be tempted to pull some carbon fiber parts (even though they are not normally very visible). :D

So, I am not looking for commitments necessarily, just trying to find out how many people may be interested in them. I'm not sure about cost yet as that would largely be determined by the cost of tooling, materials used and number of parts I would be making. No matter what I do, they should be far cheaper than OEM prices!

Any comments appreciated.

Mike
