Augmented Reality is the name of the technology behind the App.

What's it look like I don't have a way to see it :\

The App displays a 3D model that hovers above the picture.  When you lay the picture on a table, you see a very realistic P1 sitting anywhere the picture is.  When you move your device around it or move the picture (including lifting the picture off the table) the model turns with it and it's like holding an actual model.  There is a button that also allows you to control "virtual airflow" as if the model was in a wind tunnel.

The app is awesome. Will it work on any car print?

The App you downloaded has the model information in it.  When it recognizes the picture and the orientation of the picture it displays the model to match the position of the picture exactly.  The print side is up and as you turn the camera or paper it knows to rotate the model in the appropriate direction.  As you move in or away from the picture it knows to adjust the size of the model.  The model always stays on top of the picture so this gives you that 3D look when the area around it is transparent and allows everything else around it to show thru.

It's kind of simple when you think about the individual pieces however when you put it all together and it works as well as it does... simply amazing result!

They are borrowing from a technology originally developed to superimpose buildings or things that are no longer at historical sites.  Imagine going to a historical site and holding your device up so the camera can recognize the location.  Give it a couple seconds and all of a sudden you see the things that were once there and you can now move around and explore.

Hit a button and you see the people interacting with the images from different periods of time or you can click on areas of the image to learn more about connected facts.  The applications for this are endless and it really is one of the coolest applications that I've seen in a long time.

For those who haven't tried this, I really think it's worth the effort and the fact that it's connected to an Exotic car is an added kicker.   ::headbang

If you are a Apple user (iPhone or iPad) you've got to try this!

http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/mclaren-p1/id562173543?mt=8

This is going to sound weird but trust me.  I downloaded and tested this myself and it's amazing and safe.  First you've got to print out the picture I've attached below.  Next download the free App and once installed on your device, launch that app and hold your device over the image.  In a couple seconds the magic will start and watch what happens.

I won't ruin the surprise but you can move your phone around and even lift the printed picture up and down for different angles.  They have an app for Droid users also but many users are complaining about issues with it.

Give it a try and post something about the experience.
