Is this the summary?

For a G28 Body, one should use Mercedes W126 Latch & matching Striker. And either Front and Rear Door Latches and Strikers will work fine as long as they are a matching set.

Oh. and as of Today, who has Extra Sets? Mercie-Me still got an extra set?

Thanks

I just bought a Cadillac trunk mechanism on eBay to see if I can make it work.  I'm thinking that the motorized part would have to go into the door and the solenoid latch release would have to go into the rocker panel.  When I went to pull and save they had destroyed all of the motorized parts to get the trunk open.  I looked at a dozen cars and all were destroyed.

If you mount your latch inside of your door inner panel, you run the risk of hitting the striker when closing the door.  Notice in the following picture that Nobull posted that the thick fiberglass moves the latch forward and requires you to shim your striker forward to match.  Thus the scraped paint job by the latch.  Also, MAKE SURE that you get the matching strikers for your latches when you buy them.   ::thumbup

Are we still talking theoretical here or has anyone ever installed one on a Murci?
Unfortunately, still in the theoretical phase of development  ::huh

Tell me more about these soft close latches.  I probably don't have mine lined up right or they're worn or something, but it's embarrassing how hard I have to close them sometimes.

Hey Dratts,

Basically they work like this....you close the door until the latch engages the first click (latched partially but not fully latched) and then that will start the mechanism that fully latches the door.  I've seen them on custom cars and such where they don't want to have their doors slammed they have this mechanism installed and you can just "softly" close the door and the mechanism takes care of the rest.  It would definantly help out in your situation as well as mine.  I just hope it's applicable.

You have to be very careful about using a pull-down motor drive to close your doors.  Once they start pulling they will continue until fully closed even if your fingers or your passenger's fingers or anything is in the way.
I know there will be responses to this post saying it isn't a problem but it has happened where a nice girl had her fingers smashed.
Think about it before you put a lot of work and money into it.

Thanks everyone for the responses.  about smashing fingers and such.  I understand the concern....of course if their fingers are in the wrong spot whether you have the soft close doors or not they'll suffer the same fate with slamming the door too.   ::angel

Neat idea. Some camaros have that type of latch on the deck lid. My 91 z28 has it.
