Yea I used a terrible band saw that doesn't measure degrees so I didn't care for cutting all the angles in my tubes.

Is the passat similar to the a8 I wonder? for mine I mostly have to transfer everything over, john said the IC will even fit the murcie cover. Need to have a guy program the pcm for me though, haven't heard back about that yet.

Like NoBull said, once we are happy that everything is straight and square we will go back and fill in all the seams.  We have to be carefull once we start welding all the seams because that will also cause the metal to shrink and expand in different directions so we have to keep checking all the measurements so it remains square. ::thumbup

Everything will get welded completely.  When building something like this, the tack welds are used for fitting everything together (easier to correct mistakes and make adjustments).  Once you've completely welded something together, correcting a part becomes very hard to do and everything has to work together as one complete unit.

Have a question about your frame and frames in general. Are you going to just tack weld or do you go back and weld the seems completely? Just looks not safe to only tack weld... Dont make frames so I wouldnt know Im just wondering? :)

We actually got a bit more done than we expected, hopefully by next week I will have the engine cradle done also.

Here is the progress for this week, we got a bit of rain last night and didn’t get a chance to cover the chassis  :'( but we’ll get it cleaned up.

You want to sell prefabbed pieces? That would be amazing for you to make some extra cash. Nobody has a chassis kit do far!

Here are some pictures of my progress so far this week.  My goal is to have section ODC-9100 complete by the end of next week.  Building this first in my computer has been a great help to understand how everything goes together.

With the frame three pieces (entire frame) tacked together turn it upside down. With a laser set it up so the center of the frame is about 1/2" higher than the two ends. When you weld all the bottom welds (top side now because it is upside down) it will pull it straight.

BTW, your sway bar mounts should align with the bottom edge, not the top.


Thank you for the tips!  I have started with the front section and will post my progress with it as I go.  I also moved my sway bar mounts per your suggestion, thanks for catching that.  It’s these little things that make these posts very helpful.

I went to the fab shop today to have the front section made with the angles in it on both side ,i will be using 1 1/2"  X   2 1/2"  Tubing for the whole floor perimeter using larger tubing an doing it like the CW frame
