Hi,
I think I have found a plug connector - this is a male connection and has the securing clip on the outside , a picture of the inside of the socket would help , but as long as the pins are sticking out then this should be the one. I will check further. :)

Oooh , Red leather.

Hi,
If you can give me the part no. on the original plug I think I may be able to track the socket down for you. It is definately VAG.
Cheers

That would be great! I haven't cut mine yet, I cant bring myself to do it  :'( I will try to get 'the number off mine, if someone can get it before me feel free  ::thumbup

I looked at my connectors (LP640 taillights) and the numbers are very small and the detail is not that sharp.  I looked at both sides and these are the numbers that I came up with.

They have a VW / Audi logo on them:

The first set of numbers are
1J0 073 935
or
1JO 073 935

Germany AMP

In the next set, the first four characters are ZSB1

The next three could be 954  984  958 or 968

The last three could be 594  694 or 894

Inside the connector are 10 blade style male connections and they are situated five on the top and five on the bottom.  One side of the connector is rounded and the other side is flat (see the picture).

Thanks for all of the input. I think I have it straight. Time to start the tail light project!

That picture is a bit decieving though, it does not show the turn signal lamps or the reverse lamps which are on the underside. Lamp #1 is the fog lamp, #2, 3 & half of 4 are the running lights, and the other half (dual element bulb) of #4 is the brake light.

The "stars" are just reflectors and the tail lights use simple non-LED bulbs.  At $4,000 for a new set you'd expect so much more wouldn't you?   ::toothy

Be prepared to cut the OEM pigtails off.  I looked for a stock connector to use on the car and keep the wiring simpler.  I gave up and went with a 8 pin trailer connector for each tail light.  These are designed for outdoor use and will let you easily unplug and remove a tail light for future servicing.  You'll have six non-common and a common ground per side so you'll use seven pins total leaving one unused pin.

Thanks Dustin. So the "Star" lights are just for the turn signals then? Is the running/brake light LED as well or is it a standard bulb?

Thanks Again,
Kent

Help With LP640 Tail Lights
« Reply #1 on: November 14, 2012, 03:26:15 PM »
Hello,

I'm hoping that someone can help me out here. I am unclear as to what each part of the LP640 tail lights do. I have attached a picture that I copied from another thread, hope the owner doesn't mind. Can anyone tell me which of the numbered areas light for running lights, turn signals, brakes ect?

Thanks,
Kent50
