Tempered glass is much stronger than laminated glass, and very hard to break. Thats why it used on door windows. Doors get slammed all the time, and laminated glass will eventually crack. Laminated glass is used on windshiels because if its chipped, it doesnt crack into a million pieces (obscuring visability) and come flying at your face when it shatters.
If your car flips over, more than likely the side glass will break. If it doesnt, you have 2 options; kick out the windshield, or keep a window hammer attached to your seatbelt like I do. They are sold at most auto parts stores, and have a pointed hammer head on one side designed to break tempered glass, and a belt knife on the other side that will slice through a seat belt instantly in case its jammed.
