Ok everyone, I've found a supplier in the US that sells the rubber grommets and the metal connectors.  I'm ordering 100 of each and I will need 25 for myself.  25 pieces should be enough to complete the connectors for a pair of tail lights and the Hi - Low OEM horn set.  I'm offering to sell the other 3 sets (25 per set) to the first three people that contact me and complete a $20 payment in PayPal.

I'll take care of shipping as long as it's in the US.

This does not include the plastic holders, tools or wire.  This is just for the rubber seals and the metal clips that you use to assemble the electrical connectors inside the plastic holders.

Thanks,

Chris

I thought I would check with the supplier of electricals I normally use , and these seals seem to be suitable, Ref: 3-7760

http://www.polevolt.co.uk/acatalog/Small_Superseal_Connectors.html

Personally I would rather get a load in and put them in envelope and send them out to people.
Keep coming back to these though ...Ref: 3-4787-2/10
http://www.polevolt.co.uk/acatalog/Econoseal_Connectors.html
They work out to 10p each.....mmmm
Not sure if the terminals at the botom of this page will fit the housing.

I do like people who offer discount on quantity though.. :)

That helps a lot Neil.. thank you!   ::thumbup

I love when this site is used to pull minds and resources together to solve problems and answer questions.   ::headbang

OEM horn electrical connectors found at $8.50 each (need 2).

They appear to use the same flat blade style wire connector as the tail lights and these are $.60 each (x 4) at

VAG or Wurth for prices , will find out next week .
What is the part no. on the horn so I can cross reference. ::toothy
Cheers.

The part numbers on the horns are:

3B0951221C    (Low Bass Horn)
3B0951223C    (High Pitch Horn)

The connectors appear to be exactly the same and they are integrated into the side of the horn instead of being on a pigtail.

Thanks for your help.

Chris

The flat connectors are .60 a piece and can be bought online at:
https://www.worldimpex.com/item_detail.html?sku=163953

You'll need 20 obviously (ten for each side).  These are the tin coated version instead of the more expensive gold version that can run at about $9.00 (a piece) for a already soldered wire and connector.

The grommets can be ordered from the same place and they are around $2.00 each. ($40 in grommets!)
http://www.worldimpex.com/parts/genuine-part-grommet_123296.html

There has to be a less expensive solution to the grommets and I'm not wondering if a dab of silicone on each wire and then wrap everything with rubberized tape wouldn't do the same thing?

So the only part outstanding is the connection pins , which from VW are length of wire with a terminal crimped on each end - 000 979 133 , and also rubber seals 1.0mm - 357 972 741. I can get the wurth part numbers for crimp on connectors & seals if that helps.
Regards , Neil

I think this last link confirms that 1J0 973 735 is the part number we are looking for.  Look at the last set of connectors on this page and it show the male and female connectors and we have a match.

http://www.passatplus.de/umbauteile/stecker/stecker2.htm

Here are a couple places that you can buy the connector on the tail lights online for around $12.00 each.

http://www.worldimpex.com/parts/genuine-part-housing_123475.html

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/8_Pin/ES9121/

This is for the connector on the wiring harness side of the car:

http://www.vwpartscenter.net/parts/index.cfm?make=Volkswagen&year=&searchText=1J0-973-735&action=oePartSearch&siteid=215911&gclid=CI_JxfiI1bMCFegWMgodKkwAQw

Around $10 each.

Just need a match for the horns.   ::toothy

Pictures of a OEM connector on a LP640 tail light.  After I took the pictures and magnified them, I can read the numbers better:

1J0973835     964854    ZSB1-966 694

While we are figuring this out, I've included some pictures of a OEM horn and the factory connection that I need factory connectors for.  Only two blades in this connector and there are three sections of plastic inside for alignment.

I'll tell you a little secret. HELLA rear lamps produces. In a factory in Slovenia ...... No italy, no germany :-)

I'm not surprised to hear that.  It just goes to show that plastic and car companies can lie.   ;D

I would've loved to lived near the factory that made these, I would've pulled every reject out of their trash and sold them for $1000 a set and used the money to buy a real LP640.   ::tongue
